As for Jagr, he's always been one of the most talented forwards in the league. Do people think he is a lock for the HHOF?

646 goals, 1,599 points in 1,273 games reg. season games

77goals, 181 points in 169 playoff games

5 scoring titles

1 hart trophy

2 pearsons

oh there is no doubt he will be a first ballot hall-of-famer, but it doesn't change the fact that he fell short of his potential as a leader

Probably. I'm no Jagr fan, I was just responding to the HHOF question, which is pretty obvious.

List of guys who have won the scoring title 5 or more times:

Gretzky

Lemieux

Howe

Esposito

Jagr

I'll miss the guy. Amongst himself, Feds, and Shanny, ... they are pretty much the last of the Greats I remember from my childhood. I always loved watching him play. I know a lot of people gave him flack at times, but none the less, he was one of the most talented players ever. Best of luck in Russia.

Two things:

1. I hated when he scored a goal how he'd take off the glove and kiss his fingers to the sky. Then again, the way the new kids around the league celebrate goals, Jagr's finger kiss is relatively tame. I won't miss seeing it!

2. Are the Capitals still on the hook for a part of Jagr's salary?? Or did that finally expire?

This kind of sucks since the league just lost one of its all time greats to a league that has no business competing with the NHL. This might be the beginning of a bad trend where superstar European players start going back to Europe to finish their careers.

Also, I would have loved to see how many points he could wind up with before his career ended. I always thought he could crack the top 5 all time in scoring.

Here is the "official" link from nhl.com:

I'd like to point out two aspects:

a) Jagr would have continued to play in the NHL if a team had given him a three-year deal in order to "bridge" the time until his final season in his native Kladno, CZE.

b) His future salary is estimated to be 7 million a year without taxes, which would be equivalent to 11 million with taxes. The contract length is, as stated before, two years with the option for a third year.
