I was just over on the Canucks boards and they are saying it was mentioned on CKNW which is a local radion station that they are going to make the offer. This is the Canucks we are talking about though, they will find a way to f*** it up !!

. Honestly if Filpulla does get offered more than 3.7 million or wahtever the cut off is i hope he takes it. Its better for him and for us for a couple reasons.

1: It would be hideous overpayment for him right now

2. Were allready stacked

3. and.... The Canucks can be a lottery team right now and if we have their first rounder it can be a possible top 5 pick. What if they win the lottery and we got Tarvares? that would just be SICK

...that is exactly what I mentioned in another thread. Don't think the Wings woiuld actually take Tavares, but trade the pick. Could you imagine the compesation or offers we'd get for that #1 or Tavares if we did end up selecting him? WHOA!

...then again, would we have room for Tavares? Could we compensate him after his rookie campaign? I still like the possibilties of the offers that EVERY team in the NHL would give us!

...if Val did sign a $4MM offer sheet, what exactly would the compensation be draft pick-wise?

Guest Four

Again, as I said before it is a good deal either way for the Wings.

Plus, I could see this line rather exciting:

Franzen - Tavares - Hossa

for people who missed the comments under the brief article I had to post what this canucks fan said:

"All I have to say is

as a canuck fan i’m so jealous of detroit, where all 6th round draft choices become allstars and big time free agents just jump onto holland’s lap like bunnies at a playboy party.

meanwhile gillis drives around the block trying to lure kids into his cargo van with candy and xboxes. "

hahahahahaha

it IS good to be a wings fan!

If it's anything above 2.5, let him walk.

He's just as good as Cleary, younger and has more upside. He'll get at least 2.8 and is 'worth' as much as 3.5m.

I think we all forget he's a 2nd year player and his role hasn't even been fully expanded yet. This was his first year any offense was expected from him.

QFT, It seems that young players are getting paid for their potential and not for what they have already done in the NHL and if that trend continues then Flip should get in the 3-3.5 million per year range because he has a great upside.

Vancouver would have to offer something big in order to have a real shot at catching Flip. If they offer him what he's really worth now, Detroit will just match it, and Vancouver gets nothing.

If the Canucks are serious about trying to entice Filppula away, they're gonna have to go big, and force the Wings into a corner. It's the same thing Kevin Lowe did to sign Dustin Penner last year. They'll have to offer MORE than what he's worth in order to have a realistic shot at luring him away.

So I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if Vancouver offers 3 million or more for him.

Vancouver isn't going to offer an amount that would cost them, potentially, a top 5 first round pick. That's why Detroit will match the offer.

You cant really compare Cleary to Val, they are different players who have different roles on the team..

I'd say Cleary is more of a proven player right now though.. Val is still up in the air. He hasn't produced enough for me to say he is Just as good as Cleary.. I never seen Val take charge of the playoffs the way Cleary seemed to do in 06-07 season. But i know Val has the talent and the potential to be the next Zetta Dats.. Just depends if it happens or not..

I have a hard time believing they will be in the top 10.. Luongo is reason enough.

Top 5 pick? Vancouver isnt the Leafs. Theyll probably make the post season next year and at very worst will be around the 10th spot.

Look, I'm not saying they're going to finish last, that's why I said "potentially" top 5, but to suggest their going to be contending for a playoff spot is ridiculous. I'm pretty sure their management isn't dumb enough to trade their first round pick this year for Flippula. Luongo is going to have to have a MVP caliber season for that team to do anything.

Honestly, this next year's Canucks team doesn't look that much better than some of those bottom-5 Florida teams Luongo backstopped.

Where Vancouver might finish is relevant but how Detroit might use that pick is what really counts. If they had one mid range first round pick and a late first rounder they could use them to try and move up to near the top of the draft order and get a blue chip replacement for Lidstrom. I'd take the draft picks if some team makes a ridiculous offer.

Have you seen their roster? When the Sedins and Sami Salo are some of your top skaters your in trouble. Luongo can probably get them to maybe 10th 11th in confereance, but tahts still a hell of a top ten draft pick, if nonis, i mean gillis is stupid enough to offer enough for them to sacrafice a 1st rounder.

If Vancouver pays Fil more than hes worth it may... Vancouver is going to most likely be HORRENDOUS next season. Lottery pick=Tarvares.

Tarvares=The s***

Red Wings=Unfathomably good

Leafs Fans= Suicidal

Victor Hedman. 17yo. Mobile. Good with the puck. Already bigger than Pronger. Oh and Swedish which helps Hakan, Nill, and Kenny's "Pursuit of Vikings".

I love Fil but anything over 3 mil is too much for him

and I'm kind of being generous there, I'd rather see 2.5 mil

edit: also the idea that Vancouver is going to finish last is highly suspect. There are some BAD teams this year, Vancouver is in no way a lock for that

if the canucks offer 2.5 we'll match in a second...

i think the canucks will over 4+, and we'll let him walk.

Vancouver is a draft lottery team with or without him, so hello top 5 pick.

Correct me if im wrong but he's suppose to go #1 next year ahead of Tavares, no!?

Your not trying to imply Vancouver is going to suck that bad next year are you?

have to agree, even their captain wanted out of there, their "d" is suspect at best and thier top 2 scores were make our 3rd line....maybe....b4 the hossa pickup. Luongo is crazy good but so are a lot of goalies in the western conference; I just can not see the canucks doing any better then last year i actually see them doing worse
