Steve Montador is a threat to Schneider?

That's like, holy crap we traded for Cory Cross....Kronwall's days are numbered!

there were talks of moving schneider to begin with, thats the only reason it this is pretty much the deal that seals schneids fate in ana..

Don't know much about him other than he's more or less a #5/#6 kinda guy...Maybe a depth signing with intentions in keeping Schneids?

According to a couple bloggers and analysts, Montador has developed into a decent 2-way #3 or 4 guy since coming to Florida. Hard to believe since he could barely skate in Calgary and all he could really do was throw cheap hits and fights. There defence would be comparable to ours now, but I believe adding depth to the blueline just means Matty will be dealt for someone caparable but smaller contract. If Matty goes, I dont fear the Ducks as much.

nooooooo Schneider dont leave......

Sorry, but it is going to happen. Burke can only make bone-headed moves. He much rather move Schneider to save money for two guys who cannot decide if they actually want to play.''

It is just a matter of time.

I don't think it seals his fate at all. I'm not arguing that Schneider is staying in Anaheim....it's just that I don't think signing a #6 guy like Montador changes anything.

I don't think that they can move him. He makes 5.75mil, is 39 years old and is injury prone. Granted he had a great year last year but he's just not worth that kind of money. Teams that were interested in spending that kind of money on D-men already have their men. If they were going to buy him out, they would have done it at the same time that they bought out Bert.

I think he stays with the Ducks.

Are these the same bloggers whom feel the Leafs signing Finger was a good thing?

Just kiddin'

Until the Ducks get somebody that can score goals, I have no fear of them. Finishing 28th in the league in scoring in the reguar season and 11th out of 16 in the playoffs is not going to scare anybody.

Ducks are over the cap. Someone is going bye bye. I find it funny how Bert and Schneider went to the Ducks in hopes of winning a Cup and now Bert gets bought out and Schneider may be traded.

Anaheim is currently $2m over the cap. They also need to resign Drew Miller and Teemu Selanne, which will ultimately cost them another $2-3m in cap hit.

We'll call it $5m over the cap.

Trading Schneider makes sense...however; Due to age and reputation, Schneider has significantly less trade value and outperformed one of his teammates from last season. The smart trade would not be to trade Schneider, who comes off the books at the end of the season, but rather to offer Chris Pronger as the 'missing piece' on the Pittsburgh defense and say that because of cap concerns you'll 'only' want Ryan Whitney, and to waive Todd Marchant and let him go wherever. That clears up the necessary cap space while retaining a strong roster. Because ultimately, the math works like this:

Mathieu Schneider+Ryan Whitney+Bobby Ryan>Chris Pronger+Steve Montador+Todd Marchant.

Burke wont trade Pronger, ever. And if he did, it'd be the worse move he ever made.

Pronger was Anaheim's third best defenseman last season. Admittedly, it could have been a down year for him. But Schneider was their best defenseman. Regardless, Pronger is not going to ever again be the defenseman he was in 2000, and he might not ever again be the defenseman he was in 2007. But he still has the trade value to get a guy like Ryan Whitney, who right now isn't much of a downgrade and could soon be better than the Pronger of 2006. He's also much younger and cheaper.

It's like St. Louis trading Brendan Shanahan for Pronger. Yeah, he just completed two great years, and yeah, Pronger was just a kid who was unproven. But twose two seasons are STILL Shanahan's best years, and unlikely to ever be topped. Whitney has proven more than Pronger had at that point, is generally considered one of the future 'elite' defensemen, and Pronger is further away from his peak but as a former Hart winner has more trade value than Shanahan did.

Burke probably won't trade Pronger. But this isn't because keeping Pronger is what's best for the team. It's because Burke doesn't realize that trading Pronger now for a young stud is the best move he can make to secure the future of his club; he's too concerned about his next job. Another reason he is not a truly elite GM; he has never put together a franchise and kept it a winner long-term like a Holland or Lamoirello, replacing key cogs not just with big stars or different stars, but with the RIGHT PLAYERS.
