One more bold move?

I know, I know, but we can all dream.

I just noticed that Daniel Carcillo is still RFA....

I am not a fan of offer sheets, but it would be amazing to get someone like him.

What would you give up to get this guy, and his 13 goals and 324 PIMs?

Phoenix have enough cap room to match any offer. It'd likely take a 4mil+ offer sheet, and we dont have that kind of money.

But 20 goals, 20 assists, 200+ PIM's, 150+ hits kinda guy is a dream. Neil is a better option, that makes more sense and wouldnt be impossible to get.

I'm all for having an enforcer type player, but I'm not going to daydream about my options. I'll be very content if the Wings re-sign one or both of McCarty or Downey. If not them, then look for another similar-type player. But with enforcers not playing a huge role in the playoffs in all likelihood, again I'm not going to lose much sleep if ZOMG THE WINGS HAVE NO ENFORCER TO ANSWER CHEAPSHOTS IN THE REGULAR SEASON ZOMG!

Unless 20+ injuries happens to the Wings (no an enforcer can't prevent all injuries :P) or hell freezes over, the Wings will make the playoffs next season, with the significant contributions of an enforcer from the regular season or not.

It's a pretty safe bet the Red Wings are all but done signing players outside of the organization. Getting Filppula, Chelios, Quincey, Mac/Downey signed will pretty much put the Red Wings at or near the salary cap. The only potential free agent signing I could see is a replacement player in the mold of Dallas Drake.

Hossa, Stuart, and Conklin is a damn good offseason regardless. I know the enforcer issue is beat like a drum on here, but the chances of Neil/Carcillo coming to Detroit are very unlikely.

Carcillo isn't an enforcer, for one thing. If he was, then Phoenix would really have had no reason to aquire both McGrattan and Fedoruk (maybe one of the two, but not both). He wouldn't fill that role here. Enforcers are usually paid cheaply; Carcillo is a good enough player to get a lot of money, especially with today's overly inflated NHL contracts.

Secondly, he's too valuable of a player on Phoenix that they'll just let him go. They have a ton of cap space, even with high priced moves like the Jokinen trade. They'll match any offer thrown at him.

I'd love to have Carcillo on the Wings; he's an awesome player that can do it all. But, the chances of it happening are so ridiculously unrealistic that it's not even worth discussing.

All I want is Aaron Downey. I'll be really happy if they can get him to take a two-way contract. He can dress with the Wings for 35-40 games, 3 minutes of ice time a game, patrol the ice during the regular season and sit during the playoffs. That's all I need; if we get that, I'm happy.

or we can get Mark Hartigan and Matty Ellis those guys are so much more valuable then an enforcer.

Sadly, most people here would agree with that joke.

Also, don't forget about the greatest 4th liner in NHL history, Thomas Kopecky. :D

Wasn't that Maltby, Franzen, and Cleary?

That would be a great line now, but back then Cleary and Franzen weren't all that good.

Wasnt it Landfield, Williams and some other people...I can really remember. I know they were a bunch of ******* as we had 6 fights that season.

I guess I was thinking of the playoffs and not the regular season.

As far as the fights go, I'd be surprised if we get around 20 this year.

Landfeld, Williams and Hudler/Hussey.

As far as this year GMR, I see it like this. Lilja 5 fights, Downey if he signs, 10 fights, Mac 5 fights, Quincey, if he makes the team, 5 fights. Around 25 for the year, but all of those players might not even be on the roster next year, which is so so sad.

It's hard for Lilja to find takers anymore after what he did to Sharp and Phaneuf. Thus, I doubt he'll get up around 5 fights. Neither Mac nor Downey will play that much, if at all, so that's up in the air. The same can be said for Quincey who I have never actually seen fight.

Thus, that leaves us with the great Thomas Kopecky as the only remaning fighter. Hell, based on that I should change my prediction to around 10 fights, unless Franzen or Cleary want to get pummeled again 2 or 3 times. <_<

That's true, Sharp wont even think about hitting a Wing next year. I think Downey will get that much, but who knows.

 Kopecky, forgot about him, he might get one. I could see Franzen fighting, he just needs better aim, and he shouldnt try Matt Walker either... Cleary held his own against a 6'3 defenceman, not bad. I could see him getting into a couple scraps as well. We arent that bad, but that's hypothetical, since we dont know whos gonna be on the team.
