#19forPresident! 1 Report post Posted July 15, 2008 We all know that along with losing the starting job in Ottawa permanently, regardless of his upcoming free agency, Emery pretty much made an ass out of himself with his multiple bad career decisions last season. From being late on a regular basis, to fighting his own teammates at practice, he pretty much carried around the "thugged out" attitude that would give any GM have a stomach ulcer if they saw their players copping it. So, understanding his general f*ck the world attitude, when I read the article below (there's also a video with his interview up on TSN) it was pretty refreshing to hear him admit that hewas the problem, and not only that, but he also pretty much absolved his teammates and the Ottawa front office of having any infulence related to his "issues" last season. Of course we all knew that anyway, but it's pretty unusual for someone in his position who is dumb enough to do those things in the first place to show the character it takes to admit that he was an idiot and put the blame soley on himself. Emery honest in his self evaluation
Hank 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2008 I thought it was a great first step for him as well. But I'm still suspect of his motives. Is he really owning up to all his screw-ups? Or is he simply singing the right song to get himself back in the NHL after next year? I have to believe there was some coaching by his agent.

I have a hard time believing that someone who appears to be that screwed up can change overnight. Guess we'll find out by his actions in the next year or so. StevieY9802 6 Report post Posted July 15, 2008 (edited) He seemed real but you never know. I'm surprised he owned up to it. I thought he would be a jerk and blame the Sens for all of his problems. It could just be the "right thing to say" but we'll see what happens over the next year or so. He's right about how he could get a much lower salary here and try to win a job or go there for more and do the same. Can't blame him there. If he plays well there he can get a job back here next season and made a lot more money. Edited July 15, 2008 by StevieY9802
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted July 15, 2008 Could just be words and good coaching from an agent, who knows? Good luck, Ray. If you mean what you're saying, you will re-invent yourself and perhaps some NHL team will give you a shot at redemption. It's a fine line between quirky and distraction, when you act like Emery has done in Ottawa. If you're going to be quirky and crazy, you'd better have the goods on the ice to back it up. Dasvidanya, NHL, otherwise.

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted July 15, 2008 These same teammates he's apologizing to are the same assholes who stood by while he was jumped by Andrew Peters after he had already gotten into one fight with Buffalo's goalie. Yeah, I know Emery can take care of himself, but when your goalie gets attacked by the other team's enforcer after he has just fought, those teammates don't deserve any better treatment than what he gave them last year. Screw Ottawa.

Louisville 112 Report post Posted July 15, 2008 I think that was the real Emery we saw. I know it's not popular around here, but I still say we should of taken a chance on him. I'm happy with Conklin too though.

SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted July 16, 2008 What else can we do than just go by his words right now? There's no hockey to be played for a few months, it's the offseason. What else do you want Emery to do right now? Sing that he's learned from his mistakes? Whether he's true to his words and he's going to try to change his ways in a different country to either play in Russia for good or eventually come back to the NHL remains to be seen, but he's started in the right direction. He has a long ways to go obviously, but owning up to your mistakes and admitting you played a pretty large role in a negative fiasco is the first step to turning it around. If he's able to change like he wants to for the better, more power to him, and I'm hoping it happens for Emery.
