So what about the traditional new years eve game? i can't imagine the wings playing at 7 on new years eve at home then again less than 18 hours outdoors in chicago..

VERY exciting news. Going to be a terrific showcase for the NHL.

I really hope the league makes the Winter Classic a yearly thing. No more than once a year, to keep the novelty, but it's an absolutely perfect attention-grabber for the league.

hmmm approx $2k for me and the gf to fly from edmonton to detroit for the game on the 30th then det to chicago for the news years game then chicago back to edmonton...and that is without, hotel, food, inner city transportation and game tickets, don't think i can swing this one which sucks , i'll just tell myself it is better on tv anyways that wil keep me going yeah that will work

SWEET. I wonder if the Wings and Blackhawks will wear retro jerseys? That seems to be the custom from last year and in Edmonton several years ago.

I would love to see a version of the red and white striped DETROIT jersey and an older looking 'Hawks jersey come out. I'd definitely buy one of those.
