NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Cool... $6.5 was what he was slated to make in his last year (upcoming) on his old contract. He will have to take a paycut if he wants to come to Detroit. Where did you get that from? He was slated to make $3.5 million next year.

I still say he'd have to take a pay cut. Do you see the Wings ever paying that much for a goalie again? $3.5 or $6.5, either one? Do you see the Wings ever paying that much for a goalie again? $3.5 or $6.5, either one? Not where the cap is now. Kenny has made it the Wings MO to have modestly priced goaltending while spending the bulk of your cash on defense. Couple that with the puck-possession game the Wings play and there's no need to sign the Luongo's or Miller's of the NHL.
grsbmd 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Good. Now everyone can stop pretending we're going to sign him. Seriously, in terms of dumb rumors that are never going to happen, this is starting to border on Lecavalier to Montreal.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Buffalo News Miller reportedly has dismissed any notion of leaving the Sabres. As for Pominville, I've said from day one he will be a star NHLer. Whether it's in Buffalo or elsewhere. Has anyone seen the terms/$$ on this contract? Pominville already is a star. Just not to the media.

Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted July 18, 2008 You guys just don't realise what is going on here in this cap world. The AHL/europe just isn't an option for the red wings anymore. Our new stars are all already in the NHL, and playing against "rivals" so that they can improve their skills to condition themselves for the red wings. Miller isn't there yet. Kenny just felt that Ty was the guy to bring in for now. Therefore he told Miller to go ahead with the deal, and we'll talk again in two years when the sabres are trying to lighten their cap load. It's TRUE! I read it on facebook!

Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Leaf fans would say the same thing about Toronto, but would be serious about it. Come to think of it, a professional hockey player should be honored and feel privaleged (sp) to put on any National Hockey League jersey, yes even Atlanta or Nashville. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted July 19, 2008 Doesn't every goaltender want to play for Detroit?!?!!?!? Especially goaltenders originally from the state of Michigan?!!?!?!!? Miller was destined to be a Wing damn it!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is just a croc of s**t! *End obnoxious sarcasm* Like others, I am glad this happened. Not that I have anything against Ryan Miller, nothing against him whatsoever. Just glad the silly rumors of him coming here will stop and this will hopefully improve the odds somewhat of Jimmy Howard being the goalie of the future for the Wings in a few years. Johnny Diamonds 25 Report post Posted July 19, 2008 (edited) When Lidstrom retires and Howard has a 4.00 GAA we'll see who is laughing then. Edited July 19, 2008 by Johnny Diamonds
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted July 19, 2008 When Lidstrom retires and Howard has a 4.00 GAA we'll see who is laughing then. Unless a goalie intentionally wants to stink up the joint, nowadays you have to be really, really bad to have a 4.00 GAA.

I mean in the 06-07 season Dan Cloutier had a GAA of 3.98, and I don't think it was intentional, he just really really sucked.
Earthhuman 8 Report post Posted July 19, 2008 When Lidstrom retires and Howard has a 4.00 GAA we'll see who is laughing then. He's rated one of the top goalie prospects in the minors at this point, and has been solid at the very least in his time in the NHL. I think he'll develop quite nicely. Unless he signs with Columbus... it was rumored that he was offered a deal, is this true?

SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted July 20, 2008 Why do people want him? He is overrated and inconsistent, he has no upside either... Can you explain further? If we're talking about the entire NHL, I'd say people might want him because they might think he possesses qualities exactly opposite of what you said. If you are talking about Red Wings fans wanting him, it's probably a combination of what I just expalined, Red Wings fans be default in general being absolute nutcases about goaltenders, and a bad assumption that just because Ryan Miller lived in Michigan all his life and played in college there, that he'd automatically want to play for the Red Wings.
