Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 As per TSN: The Calgary Flames have signed free agent tough guy Andre Roy for the upcoming season. ''Andre is a player with a Stanley Cup championship, who provides us with a dimension that is still important in the league,'' said Flames general manager Darryl Sutter. ''It was our goal to replace that aspect on our team and we felt it was better to do it now than to trade for it as we go into camp.'' Last season, Roy scored four goals and added three assists in 63 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He also picked up 108 minutes in penalties. Originally drafted by the Boston Bruins in the sixth round of the 1994 Entry Draft, Roy won a Stanley Cup in 2004 with the Lightning.

skacore 2 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 (edited) Good signing for 550k. Brandon Prust wouldn't be able to carry the heavyweight role that Eric Godard left but Andre Roy will fill it nicely, also a better player than Godard. A top notch fighter is a key ingredient to Calgary's tough image. Monday, July 21, 12:48 AM - this thread is going to become 5 pages, not about Andre Roy signing with Calgary Edited July 21, 2008 by skacore

Guest Dump-N-Thump Report post Posted July 21, 2008 And so the Flames solidify their push for yet another first round exit Yup a 3-4 minute player solidifies the push for a first round exit, That makes a perfect amount of sense. I'm not going to jump down your throat, But being in the top 8 of the playoffs is a huge task.. Regardless if its a first round exit or not, The west is an insanely tough conference. with alot of tough teams.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 Good move for the Flames. Roy is a guy that actually had a great year except for that Cote fight. That leaves only a few teams without an enforcer signed for next year.

uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 What teams could those be? Toronto...New Jersey...and Columbus. You may think the wings are enforcerless...but fear not! We have the mighty powerplay to protect our star players
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 Toronto...New Jersey...and Columbus. You may think the wings are enforcerless...but fear not! We have the mighty powerplay to protect our star players Both New Jersey and Columbus have more fighters than us, even if they're not top 10 enforcers. Toronto is just downright pathetic considering that about 6 or 7 years ago they were where Anaheim is now in terms of a tough team.

Toronto is just downright pathetic considering that about 6 or 7 years ago they were where Anaheim is now in terms of a tough team. New Jersey dont have that many now theyve let Aaron Asham go...Columbus has Jared Boll who could probably become a HW if he put some more muscle mass on... Toronto dont even have Tucker anymore...they're the wings of the 05-06 season. *I now declare this thread hijacked*
norrisnick 1 Report post Posted July 22, 2008 "Every team has somebody who falls into that job -- except the Red Wings," said Roy, from his off-season home in Montreal. In what other way are the Wings an exception to the rest of the league, Andre?
Guest Dump-N-Thump Report post Posted July 22, 2008 In what other way are the Wings an exception to the rest of the league, Andre? Tradition? Loyalty? Skilled Players? Swedes? If your insinuating that a enforcer is detrimental to a cup run.. your mistaken.

A healthy Mark Bell alone puts them at where the Wings were in 05-06, Newbury, Mayers, Hollweg, possibly McCabe and Ondrus? And I still have a feeling they'll pick up a heavyweight, if they're going to bomb the year, why not carry one?

Cern 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2008 The Bertuzzi pick-up told me everything I needed to know about the Flames this coming season. Any team where the coach looks at every avaliable player and prospect at his disposal and thinks to himself "Hmm, you know who is a sure fit for our first line? Post-incident Todd Bertuzzi" is a team that isn't going places.

Cern 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2008 (edited) First line? What you on about? Most sources I've picked up on here in Calgary give strong indications that they want Bertuzzi on with Iginla (who himself provided much of the push to pick up Bertuzzi in the first place) and - I think - Langkow in the hopes that it'll make him regain his earlier form. It's ******* laughable whether that's actually going to happen or not, but in my limited knowledge of the Flames roster I'm not even entirely sure who else they would put there beyond maybe Camilleri. Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted July 22, 2008 I don't think anyone honestly believes Bertuzzi will regain his pre-"incident" form. I could see him doing pretty well on a line with Iginla.
