T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 If you named teams from the states where the players grew up, would Michigan be any good? Not players from other states that went to college in Michigan, but guys that grew up there. I know there's a lot, but I just can't think of them right now. What US state would be better than Michigan? In North America, of course Ontario would rule, but then who, Quebec? BC? Rafalski, Abdelkader, Hatcher, Modano, Weight, Ryan Miller...do we have enough to ice a full squad?

Guest Crymson Report post Posted July 21, 2008 Amongst all states, Michigan is 2nd in how many current NHL players it has produced. Last season, the number was 24; only Minnesota, with 25, had more (source). You're forgetting Brian Rolston.

BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 (edited) Some other Michigan born players are Legwand, Rolston, Kesler, David Booth, Gleason, and how could you forget JEFF FINGER?! The state of New York has some good players... Patrick Kane, Dustin Brown, Brian Gionta, Chris Higgins, Erik Cole, Mathieu Schneider, Tim Connolly, Lee Stempniak, Craig Conroy, Mike Komisarek, Jimmy Howard, etc... Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Massachusetts have some good players too. Edited July 21, 2008 by BeeRYCE

Edit: I guess we'd need to decide on "all time", "present day" or "current & recent" (which of course could include Pat Lafontaine) Originally Iguess I was thinking "current rosters" based on fantasy hockey numbers, who would win? BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 Brown - Connolly - Kane Cole/Higgins - Conroy - Gionta/Stempniak Yeah, pretty good top two forward lines, but... Datsyuk - Zetterberg - Holmstrom Filppula - Franzen - Hossa I have a hard time picturing any top 2 lines from anywhere contending with that.

joshy207 156 Report post Posted July 22, 2008 (edited) Eric Lindros went to my high school for awhile (Farmington High School). Can we include him?? Or is this just current players? Hey, I went there too! Class of '93. I saw Lindros around school a lot during the few months he was there. Even at 16 he was HUGE. My Team Michigan, current version: Mike York - Doug Weight - Brian Rolston Ryan Kesler - Mike Modano - Mike Grier* Andy Hilbert - David Legwand - Adam Hall Dave Moss - Jim Slater - Chad LaRose Extras: TJ Hensick, David Booth Brian Rafalski - Tim Gleason Derian Hatcher - James Wisniewski Matt Greene - Jeff Finger Extra: Andy Greene Ryan Miller Tim Thomas *Grier was born in Detroit but his family moved to MA when he was 5, so he's not Michigan-trained. eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted July 22, 2008 Pat Lafontaine was born in St.Louis but he grew up in Michigan. If we're making an "All-Time" team, we have to include Mark Howe. Also left off lists so far: Mike Knuble; raised in the Grand Rapids area.
Doggy 130 Report post Posted July 22, 2008 What about Mike York and Anson Carter? They'd have to crack the lineup. Also Bob Johnson could be the coach. For an 'all-time' team you cannot forget Al Iafrate.

For an 'all-time' team you cannot forget Al Iafrate. Anson Carter is from Toronto, and that Bob Johnson isn't THE Bob Johnson. "Badger Bob" passed away years ago, and the Bob on the list is Brent's dad. Nice! Class of 03 here! Man, you're just a pup!

T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted July 22, 2008 Pat Lafontaine was born in St.Louis but he grew up in Michigan. I played on an all-star baseball team in grade school with Pat Lafontaine when I lived in Union Lake and he lived in Waterford, Mi. More recently, my brother bought used goalie pads at the Waterford "Play It Again Sports" or whatever its called, and they were the old brown ones and had hand written "Lafontaine" on them. joshy207 156 Report post Posted July 22, 2008 My Team Michigan, current version: Not bad, but I don't think it would make the playoffs. Well... that's the best our state has to offer! In a tournament against other regions from the US, it would do pretty well.
