What's up with D-Mac and Downey?

No, he really wouldn't.

He would. if he can get 3 points playing 4 minutes a night on the 4th line...

Playing on the 1st line would multiply that by 4 for 12 points. This would also increase his TOI to..15 minutes maybe...which is almost a 4 times increase...so multiplied by 4 again means he would 48 points. Because Downey got 3 assists in his 3 points it means 3 assists for every goal so he would score 16 goals. Not bad eh?

haha, that is some of the most ridiculous logic I have ever heard.

My prediction is that one of the two will end up signing elsewhere. Probably Downey. There has to be one team that is looking for a bit of muscle and that will give him a one-way contract. Even though Mac is also probably looking around, I don't know if another team would be willing to take a chance on him, for anything more than we would offer him.

Every team has a tough guy except for the Wings. Not sure on how many spots are available on the Wings or leaguewide for Downey and I doubt if anyone besides Detroit would have DMac.

Toronto, Columbus and New Jersey are still in the market for a tough guy...well maybe not the leafs cos they suck balls in every sense but theres still 2 teams who understand the importance of an enforcer if Detroit decides to turn a blind eye to its success last season.

Put Downey on the first line and play him 30 minutes a night and we could be seeing 40 pts from him this season. But will Holland and Babcock play a 40 pt player who fights and sticks up for his teamates? Of course they won't.

Columbus has Jared Boll

New Jersey has that Clarkson guy

Toronto did add Jamal Mayers

I'm glad this place is back to the same old topic. "Wings can't win if they don't have an enforcer." I mean it's not like they won a cup without one really. And don't say McCarty because he got into one fight the entire playoffs. But that one fight in the 2nd game of round 2 made the difference when the Wings were up 4-0 already in that game. Sorry people maybe you should stop thinking you know better than Babcock. This 40pt crap that people keep saying or whatever please tell me how you figure that out. 3 pts in 56 games even if you gave him 5x the playing time, which wouldn't happen, and played more games you can't even argue with me he would get 30. If Downey was that good or could be that good he would have signed somewhere else by now. Does Don Cherry post in this forum too? "The fans want to see rock em sock em hockey." Yeah Don I want to see the Wings losing early like when Probie and Kocur were here and not those Stanley Cups.

I would personally love for both guys to sign and take turns up here and in GR. D-Mac's definitely got the edge in point production (not much obviously, but better than Downey) and nostaligia of course. I really like Downey though because he's a huge character guy who knows his role very well. He's Detroit's kind of enforcer. He fights when he needs to and would take a bullet for anyone on the team. Both guys are excellent character players and will defend the Wings when needed. That being said... if I had to choose one it would be Downey. He put up with a lot of crap last year just to have D-Mac sweep in and take his spot. Plus, Darren's added point production isn't really a necessary addition to the team.

Don't get me wrong, Im as glad as anyone that he made it back but......he's not what he once was. Im still disappointed that they didn't get McGratton (PHoenix gave up a 5th I think) Its difficult to let go of the old warriors, especially when they have won in the past.

I hope for the sake of logic and reason that this comment was sarcastic.

Seconded.

There is a reason why Downey doesn't play top-line minutes. It is because he is good in the role that he is in as an agitator/4th liner and has little offensive upside. Let's leave it at that and be happy he does well in his role.

Bob Wojnowski: I think Stoney asked you, but I'm curious, is there anything new, because Ken Holland has worked his way through a lot of the deals he's had to do, and stuff, anything new on your situation? I know you're still hopeful to return to the Wings, anything new?

Darren McCarty: Yeah, I believe that both sides are hopeful, and we're trying to work out, really, the, just the, a couple of little things on it, but I'm sure something will get done, and hopefully somewhere pretty soon. There's really not a, you know, big thing to negotiate on back and forth, so it's nothing that I'm really worried about.
