Icteria virens 11 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 why are we subsidising the Chicago economy? Let them play Phoenix at Wrigley field and see how it goes. How come we always 'suck' until they find a gimmick to sell tickets and then we're the Western Conference's cash cow. Play the game in Ann Arbor or Detroit and help out our economy. Louisville 112 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 Aren't you taking this a little too serious? Could I suggest, "relaxing"? No, because I wasn't being serious. Maybe I should be more clear "when it comes to tone over the internet" *******.
Hank 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 That's hilarious! You guys expect him to to do something different? You guys post as if everybody in the world should cheer for the Wings. I know. This guys a fan and how many fans have said "this team sucks or that team sucks". I'm sure all of us would just be flabbergasted if a Detroit official said "Anaheim sucks" or "Colorad Sucks" before a big event. Who cares.

IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. Seriously guys, do you want to be worshipped wherever you go in the world? No adversity? No rivalry? Chicago used to be one of our great rivalries and finally they have an exciting team to watch and they are trying to get there fans back.. Plus that has been the chant in that house for years!!!!!! auxlepli 17 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 Oh great PC'ness has entered the realm of cheering for a sports team. "Wah! Don't boo former players who come back. People who boo are knuckleheads." Calling those fans names is just as childish. "Oh my ears and sensiblities have been offended because a county commishener hundreds of miles away used the word 'sucks!' to describe my home city." Gimme a break!
Louisville 112 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 Easy...It was just a joke man. Some of your posts earlier than the one I quoted made it seem as though you were pretty upset about it and possibly taking it a little more serious than I feel it needs to be. Well you don't live in Chicago now do you? Or Cook County for that matter? Listen, I'm all for rivalry, and I'm all for taking taking jabs at the other team, but I deal with prick Chicago fans all the time. I support their team more then their own fans. I've been to plenty of games, and fans still feel the need to yell Detroit sucks no matter who they are playing. Fine, but when it gets to the point where my own public officials are taking shots at Detroit, in a goverment document, well sorry, but I'm not going to take that s***. Quigley can go stand with the rest of the idiots in the crowd and shove his "official resolution" up his ass. So until you know what the hell your talking about, I don't care that you feel I'm taking this "little more serious than I feel it needs to be."
LeftWinger 5,132 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 He's trying to stir the pot, He knows that he doesn't want a boring game, so he calls detroit some names in hopes it ruffles some feathers.. and s*** hits the fan and bam bam bam we got ourselves an ole school hockey game. ...who's feathers? I think the Wings have proven that nothing gets to them. They are probably honored to be part of the Classic (which is already slated to have Chicago win, it's in stone) but I think they'd just assume play it and go home. I never looked at the schedule but does this game make them NOT have a New Years Eve game or are they gonna play New Years Eve and then at 1:30 on New Years Day? They should play home and home with Chicago, so both teams are just as tired! Oh, BTW, Quigley is being coached by the NHL to say negative things, so the fan rivalry heats up, because he is tired of hearing how there are no Origianl 6 rivarlies anymore because of the alignments, so if Detroit/Chicago heats up, bam! Original 6, interdivisional Rivalry! Of course Buckwheat Kilpatrick is already in enough trouble, so Bettman isn't asking him to trash talk anyone... ...although I heard that there were some sex-texts intercepted between Buckwheat and Quigley Down Under... Quig: You no u my n***a, I told u how I like my *** licked Kwame: Oh, n***a pleez! U were tossin my salad all nite! And ur beeeotch wife best be tossin mine tomarow nite! Quig: Yes, massa, u rite! So until you know what the hell your talking about, I don't care that you feel I'm taking this "little more serious than I feel it needs to be." TBH, I'm trying to have a civil conversation with you, but if you're going to keep going off I'm not gonna bother. You made a comment earlier to me and ever since then you've been the one that has resorted to personal insults, not me. So lets let that go. Don't think because I don't live in Illinois or Chicago for that matter that I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to their fans. I fully understand how big of assholes their fans can be and are on a consistent basis. Being from Green Bay and a huge Packers fan we have our occasional Bears fans and most of them are jackasses. To top it off, I try to make it every single Wings game at the United Center every single season, so I know full well how they act and how they treat opposing teams fans (especially Wings fans). That being said what do you expect? The Wings/Hawks rivalry from the past was so heated and the Hawks fans obviously can't stand seeing the success this Wings franchise has had for the past 15+ years. They're frustrated and bitter, no different than I'm sure Wings fans would be if the situation were reversed all this time. As I said earlier, the whole "Detroit Sucks" comment is more good-natured ribbing than anything else. It's not meant as a personal insult or a shot at Detroit. TBH, I think you're just taking it way too seriously. I understand that you take flak for living where you do, but I'm sure all 3 of the Blackhawks fans in Detroit take similar abuse. Bottom line, I understand your frustration but I just think its ill-directed. This is nothing more than a public official showing his pride for his hometown team. Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 TBH, I think its kind of funny. Chicago knows their team hasn't been in the same ballpark as Detroit for the last decade, but this is a long-standing tradition for Chicago. It doesn't mean the Red Wings are a bad team, it just means "Detroit Sucks". The Blackhawks could be 0-82 and the Wings 82-0 and to them, "Detroit Still Sucks". It's all in good-natured ribbing. Haha I agree. I thought it was quite humorous in all honesty. That takes some guts and a pretty darn good sense of humor on his part. Sure it lacked some "class" (That word is wayyy overused on these boards), but what a great way to get the Hawk fans geared up! Geez NFM, you sure are getting harassed a lot lately on these boards eh.

sjradio 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 Don't you just love how we have more cups in the last 11 seasons than they do in their entire 75 year history. The minor league team up the road has more championships than the Hawks. With the exception of the Bulls and the Bears in 86. Chicago Sports have been a century of failures. (I know the White Sox won in 2005) Hawks 1934,1938, 1961 (48 years by the time the next playoffs roll around. Sox nothing for over 88 years. (1906, 1917, 2005) oh... Did I mention the Cubs yet? A century of failure.

SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted July 25, 2008 How is this oh so terrible people? I can think of hundreds of worse things to say or do other than "Detroit sucks" or "*insert your favorite team here* sucks" chant. And I am aware that some (not all as I hate generalizations) Chicago fans can be pretty big jerks. One of my cousins and her husband went up to Chicago two NFL seasons ago for the NFC Championship playoff game between the New Orleans Saints and Bears and they were treated very badly from what I heard, I saw people/pictures of Bears fans with signs saying more or less, "We're going to finish what Hurricane Katrina started", etc. However, I think it is a safe bet not all Bear fans or Chicagoians are like this. And I find it ironic that we are suggesting ways for Blackhawks and other fans to "properly" cheer when half the time Joe Louis Arena isn't quite the noisiest of all venues on a consistent basis throughout a season (I know I know, we cheer when it matters most and bring the support in the playoffs, business suits in the lower section argument, etc.). Further, like has been mentioned in this thread, if a leader of Michigan, or anybody for that manner who is a Red Wing fan, yelled out "Chicago sucks" or "Colorado sucks" or "Anaheim sucks" or "*insert other team name here* sucks", people here would be just giving him or her rounds of applause over and over again. I'm not a cheerleader type, nor am I one to get drunk before a game or just constantly be loud and yell explicatives towards other players or fans. I normally just watch the games intently and that's it. Unless though you are just acting like a total jackass constantly swearing up a storm or making yourself look like an idiot or offending others around you diminishing their game viewing experience, I'm not going to stop you from doing whatever or be bothered. I actually confronted a guy about this once though where he was just acting like a lunatic at a football game to where even fans of his team whom I were sitting around were pretty shocked at how over the top he was acting. The team usually isn't that good but they were actually taking my school to task this college football game and he was just yapping on about how the refs were against his team, "IF THERE WAS ANY JUSTICE IN THE WORLD," just obnoxious stuff he was ranting and bitching about and going on and on and on even though his team was up by around 25 points and going to win. I wasn't really pissed off or bitter or ranting that my team was getting destroyed, I rarely get like that during games and my team's bad play didn't set me off to respond to him. Him still acting like a lunatic after half the game was over when his team was dominating just got on my last nerve, along with fans of his team showing the same amazement, where I just had to tell him to calm down. I told him to enjoy the fact that his team was actually winning in convincing fashion, it shockingly worked as he kept quiet for the rest of the game. But there is plenty worse than chanting a team sucks and I hardly find that offensive, and I don't think it's a crime for other teams to cheer against Detroit or take jabs at them since they are always one of the best teams in the league right now. Just some friendly jabs, and nothing to make a giant deal out of or get angry at. This thread is being made out that saying a team sucks is a brand new concept. There isn't going to be a tea party anytime soon where Blackhawk fans will go to Wings fans, "By golly we are going to get you Red Wings! Let's have some more tea and crumpets! Jolly that sounds good! Look at how well we're getting along at the tea table!" Now, I get where some are coming from to where saying you suck makes you sound a little less mature. I understand that. However, I find the semi-serious or playful remark such as that much less annoying and less defining of "character" than the sports nut that is too serious or rants ridiculously against the other team to the point of bitterness or acting like a lunatic, kinda like how I laid out in my experience above with the idiot rambling fan. I might be in the minority but the idiot rambling fan here has less "character" or "class" to me.
C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2008 (edited) I'll be honest, I don't mind the Blackhawks that much. I loved the Roenick/Cheli/Belfour/etc. team that made it to the final when I was a kid, and I'm not old enough to remember when Wings-Hawks was all that hardcore. Hell, Michel Goulet used to live across the street from my aunt and uncle and I played roller hockey with his kid once. Jocelyn Thibault won me a fantasy championship when he had his one good year in Chicago. My best friend was a Blackhawks fan too. So I'll admit it, I've generally rooted for them when they're not playing the Wings. That said, I'll gladly give it all up to have a bitchin' rivalry with them. They can obviously (and finally) hang on the ice, and it's nice to see some of the hate, which isn't just coming from their side now. WCII can be the launch point for a renewed rivalry, one that has much more staying power than Wings-Avs due to history and geography. I'm geeked, let's get at this thing already!
