Chicago County Comissioner Already Trying to Mix It Up

Best quote of the article:

Quigley went on to say that "the good thing about being a Blackhawks fan is you don't have to live in Detroit." Funny, we always thought it was ticket availability.

Okay, I don't give a crap if the average Blackhawks fan decides to chant "DETROIT SUCKS!". It's what they do.

The reason I thought this was classless and juvenile was because this was an ELECTED OFFICIAL incorporating this into a GOVERNMENT DOCUMENT. If this guy was decked out in Blackhawks gear and just started a chant during a press conference or something, fine. But it just comes across to me as infantile to use government paperwork to say it. I'd think it was just as infantile if Granholm, Kwame, etc. wasted government resources doing it against Chicago.

Oh well, I realize I'm in the minority on this one. *shrug*

I understand your stance and get where you are coming from. It's not "professional", but this is sports. Not in the sense or context that it generates revenue for the cities/state or from the business or money side, but from the "rivalry" obviously towards the cities not just in hockey, but in all sports I think. I still don't see it as anything more than just good-natured ribbing still, regardless of whether it is a governmental leader, CEO, or a 10-year old. I'm no mind reader and I've definitely been wrong about, well a lot in life, but I just don't see higher ups making too much of a big deal out of this. And being that is doesn't look like it errs on the side of governmental corruption or any direct impact on citizen tax dollars or morale, I wouldn't make it a big deal either.

Chicago knows their team hasn't been in the same ballpark as Detroit for the last decade

Why, I do believe you have unconsciously made a funny!

The guy's a cumbucket, drop him.

I think they're just trying to spark up the old rivalry. I say go for it. It's all in good fun. Kwame should just respond saying.."That's an unfair attack on my girlfriend. But at least I get it without using my hands"

What people seem to forget in the "X sucks" or "Y rules" type of chants is that everyone has their strengths and weaknesses.

Detroit does suck in comparison to Chicago, if one is talking about golfing ability, although in fairness to the Wings, Chicago gets an extra two months of practice annually.

The man in question is a politician, and as such, can not be expected to know what he's talking about. It's the nature of the beast. Perhaps the same can be said of Blackhawks fans.

All I can say is "Let's Go Red Wings!" Hmm, perhaps a Detroit politician can put that in a legal document.
