Best All-Time Ranking Amongst Current Players

Recommended Posts

Who do you think are the top 10 players in the NHL today based on all-time current ranking and the careers that they've had so far. Here's how I'd rank my list:

1. Lidstrom

2. Sakic

3. Brodeur

4. Chelios

5. Shanahan

6. Fedorov

7. Modano

8. Pronger

9. Niedermayer

10. Selanne

Not to split hairs, but by players in the NHL "today" do you mean ones that haven't officially retired?

Besides, Rob isn't that good. :P

Yes, I was talking about guys that are still playing in the NHL today and who's had the best career amongst them.

As far as I know, none of the guys on my list have officially retired.

Quality list. I guess Jagr doesn't qualify anymore though.

Good thread.

He'd be 4th on that list if he did qualify.

I also thought about Forsberg, but I believe he retired from the NHL, so I didn't include him. Also, I omitted Roenick, Blake, Sundin, and a few others so it'll be interesting to see how others make their lists.

Yeah I can see any non-cup winner as left out.

Rod Brindamour though.. he'd battle for a spot on my list.

Brind'Amour? I didn't even think about him, and I can't see how I could put him above any of those players I listed.

He's had a great, solid career, but he was never one of the best forwards in the league. Every other guy on my list was always one of the best in the league at their position at some point.

Looking for a hitch, but all seems right where it needs to be, career wise among those not officially retired, Lidstrom and Chelios are definately the best defenseman and Brodeur is a no brainer, and Sakic and Shanahan are in good spots at the top of the forwards. Tempted to move up Selanne, and even Pronger (note: i hate Chris Pronger more than anyone currently living)... and its hard to get my "Fedorov is GOD (though greedy as hell)" side of the 90s-03 to get along with my "Fedorov is over-priced and lack luster" side of the past 3-4 seasons to agree enough to set his career that high... so I won't mess with it...

My list would be more or less the same with a couple changes. Also with Selanne in 9th and Kariya in 10.

How do you figure Sundin has had a better career than those guys listed below him? All those guys should be above him, and not just because they won Cups.
