DatsyukownzU13 1 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 lilja would thrive on another team, prolly T.B. or ATL Not too sure about that one. He's played with teams like that (i.e. Panthers) and he didn't exactly "thrive" there.
Holmstrom96Screens 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 (edited) I think if you're gonna bust on cleary than the game vs the leafs on oct 9th is most likely not the best thing to bring up cause fact is nearly everybody played kind of crap that night. (I still have no idea what they were on that night; if i figure it out I'll let ya know), now yes I busted on Cleary on drw.com but only for that one game and the fact our newspaper made a big fuss over cleary for that game when he really didnt deserve it that night but i don't bust his entire hockey ability based on that game and Lilja I don't hate the man but iwouldnt mind if he got traded. fact is he did do some re\ather dumb stuff as was already pointed out, and if people may recall did some rather dumb stuff in the scf of 2008 as well. but cleary played better in the game vs ottawa , they all did really, and cleary got an assist too. imo cleary > lilja (and no even though I'm from Newfoundland this is not just me being a Newfoundland homer, I really believe that Cleary is better hockey player than Lilja.) 55fan 5,133 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Kilja lead the team in blocked shots during the regular season last year? I remember reading an article where he said something along the lines of every shot he blocks is one the goalie doesn't have to worry about, so he likes blocking shots. It takes some pretty hefty balls to stand in front of a flying puck and block it with your body, especially if you aren't wearing goalie gear, but to like doing it is another pair of cojones alltogether. The man has his place on the team. He's no Nick, but that's ok. We already have a Nick. The fact that he will stand up for his teammates is another plus. I'm fine with him. wingnut40 176 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 Apparently Osgood passing the puck to a Leafs player and saying "here is an open net, I do not mind if you score" must not of mattered in that loss... Get real brother... Dude, I was being sarcastic. It's hard to convey that via text. I Ment no matter how well he does people will still find a way to blame him for something. russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 Lilja has looked good to me in both games, and he is one of our best PK defenceman due to his shot blocking ability.... He goes nowhere...
Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 Is there a record of LGW for the most "I hate Lilja or Sammy" threads?
Shutemdown 23 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 Alright... So it would seem that these boards are split between whether or not Lilja belongs on this team, or should still be here depending on his play. Alot of you argue he should be gone. My only question to all of those people: Obviously you guys are GM-caliber and possess the foresight and hockey-knowledge of a seasoned, veteran coach, so this question will be easy as hell for you... Who would you replace him with? Tell me who you would rather have on the back end and why. What defenseman would you plug into his spot?
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 Everyone hates lilja except babcock and holland (too bad they're the ones in charge not us) Everyone? Where do you come up with that? Isn't interesting how Babcock and Holland can be so blind and not see how terrible Lilja is yet *all* the geniuses on LGW have it figured out. [/sarcasm] Alright... I've posed this question so many times yet still haven't gotten a reply with a single player that offers what Lilja does for his price tag.
2probert4 8 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 I'm sorry but he flat out sucks. Lilja coughs the puck up every time, stands there while on defense, he can't pass correctly, and he can't shoot for anything. Sure he's big, 6 ft 3 in - 230 lbs, but how many times do the Red Wings get into any fights? That's all he's there for. He nearly costed us the game to the Senators last night along with Cleary. What's your thoughts on him? Sorry my first post had to be a rant. I agree with you that he's not very good at all, but be careful, someone will ask you for video proof of Lilja making mistakes....Lilja doesnt fight that often, he tends to drop the mitts and hug someone. He was resigned because Holland went into panic mode when Brad Stuart wasnt calling at midnight of the first FA signing day, saying he'll take less to stay around... Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 Woah, woah, woah 2probert4. Don't list all those players at once.....I'm having trouble keeping up. Well you got Ericsson, but he needs to work on positioning and not getting beat wide...but there is Meech, but he doesn't block shots or penalty kill...at least we could use Kindl in Lilja's place, but then again, he is struggling be consistent at the AHL level...What about Brenden Smith, he had a fantastic freshman year in college! Notice how every single player you listed had something that isn't up to snuff when compared to Lilja. That's my point. *At this point* Brendan Smith doesn't come close to bringing to the table what Lilja does.
