This Is Bida 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 (edited) He's basically training on his own time right now and using the Rangers rink (MSG) to skate on his own. Seems the Rangers just don't have any room for him and now that they're off to a 5-0 start I don't see them resigning him. From what I have read he's basically digging his own grave because he's said he only wants to play for the Rangers. Seems most Rangers fans are glad to see him gone too and would rather give the younger guys a chance. Kind of sad to see him go out like this but... maybe he shouldn't be so stubborn. That or he mine as well retire. Lord knows he's a shell of the player he used to be. Edit: (kelsey) Grammar Edited October 16, 2008 by This Is Bida

miller76 463 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 (edited) I am surprised no one here has asked the $64,000 question yet, on Shanny and where he will go next if anywhere. We all know it is inevitable. Edited October 16, 2008 by miller76

He was a really good player when he is here with the Wings.

daniel1 32 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 There's nothing sadder than a past-his-prime pro athlete who can't admit it's time for the curtain to close on a stellar career. I remember one very funny post game interview from HNIC several years ago when Brian Bellows was making a "comeback" from retirement. They aired a clip from earlier in Brian's career that clearly showed Brian to be bald as an eagle then cut back to the current interview where he's sporting a shiny new head of hair (piece). Even the announcer couldn't keep his eyes off Brian's new wig and Brian was obviously a little embarrassed about wearing a hairpiece for an interview right after he got off the ice. I couldn't help but wonder if he wore the darn thing under his helmet for the whole game? Must have been itchy scratchy by the second or third shift that's for sure. Shanny should pull the plug and say thanx for the memories; who does he think he is anyway? Chelios?? lol

Chase 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 I miss him I think theirs too many people that are too hard on him here and I think he was a good player Not me. I loved shanny when he was here and I still miss him. He left on his own terms, and I think most wings fans respected his decision and wished him luck (at least I did). Shanny was the definition of a "power forward". Now a days its a rare breed. You don't see many players that score 30 goals a year on a regular basis and are willing to drop the gloves on a regular basis as well. Remember the irish jig???? Oh man who can forget those days... T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 (edited) I miss him I think theirs too many people that are too hard on him here and I think he was a good player While those were great times while he was a Red Wing, I don't necessarily miss him. I guess I'm so old (43) that I realize there is a season for everything and nothing lasts forever. Yeah, he was a great Red Wing. Skill, strength, fists, humor, he had it all. I especially like the "We're not worthy" bow down to Yzerman as Stevie comes out of the lockerroom. Edited October 16, 2008 by T.Low
babycks0612 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 Yeah I know nothing lasts forever and things will move on and new players will come in, but he was a big part of the Wings for many years just as so many other players have been. I just dont think they should be forgotten, they are great players and great people and I just think people shouldnt forget that. I just think that every player even if their not the best player, every player still is a key to the team and they bring something to the team.

Barrie 900 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 I hope Shanny signs somewhere, so he can come back to The Joe and get a well deserved standing ovation from Wings fans. It’s a shame the Rangers never played in Detroit the last two seasons.

Sorry I have to correct you here but if you're referring to the video where Shanny *sort of* looks like he's bowing down... He's not. He's stretching. It kind of, sort of, a little bit looks like he might be bowing down the Stevie. but he's not!
b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 Stevie will always be number one, and Shanny will always be number two to me. The guy was one of the greatest power forwards ever to play the game and he had charisma to burn. Its a shame Shanny hasn't played in Joe Louis since his departure, we all know he would get a huge standing ovation. Great ambassador to the NHL and the sport of hockey, especially taking the initiative during the lockout to get the talking started. I hate to see him just fade into obscurity or skip team to team before his retirement. Here's hoping Shanny gets a contract, lights it up and retires on top, though its not likely. murphy55d 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 Shanahan was a great contributor, but what kills me is that people rip Fedorov for leaving, yet Shanahan doesn't get the same kind of treatment. Especially with his playoff disappearing acts...the one thing you could always say for Fedorov, he showed up when it counted. 168 pts in 169 games... Shanahan on the other hand, not so much. Especially with his playoff disappearing acts...the one thing you could always say for Fedorov, he showed up when it counted. 168 pts in 169 games... Shanahan on the other hand, not so much. Shanny didn't leave the same way Fedorov did. Plus Shanny and the fans knew his days as a Red Wing were over. Shanny wasn't the only one who disappeared in the 2003, 2004, and 2006 Playoffs. The whole team couldn't score when it counted.

Shanny was great, so was Feds (another thread on him going on), but seeing that video of Stevie, I mean that guy was a whole other level. The highest level there is in the game or any game. P.S. I think Shanny was just stretching, no bowing.
