Has anyone else heard about this? Mason, their 1st string goalie is out 2 weeks due to an emergency appendectomy and they're bringing in Ben Bishop.

Just though it was crazy that he's only 21, and he's a goaltender that stands 6'7". Crazy...

Another U-Maine Blackbear

Given his size, what style does he play? I can only envision the basic standing technique- nobody I've known even close to that height (our HS goalie was 6'4") has the flexibility to play butterfly.

A little clip of Big Ben Bishop

Can't wait to start seeing 7ft, 500 pound goalies just standing there with all the pucks hitting them in their fat rolls. Hell, maybe they could just lie down. Forget skates, just smear butter on his backside and slide him across the ice.

My Dad says they should just plug a sumo wrestler in the net. You wouldn't be able to get anything else in.

Man most goalies in the league wear leg pads that are up to their waiste high. This guys knee pads may be over Hudler's head. The 5 hole on this guy is going to allow a beach ball through, or maybe Hulder could weave his way through his pads!

Mason's their backup, or at least 1B starter. Legace still gets the bulk of the starts there.

If he was anything great he would have been in the league way before. Just because he blocks alot of the net, there are still alot of holes that he can't get to in time.

I hope he plays against the Wings, lets exploit the reasons why he is third string.

Or he was in college and actually came out a year early, very similar to his predecessor at U-Maine, one Jimmy Howard.

Now Bishop is not a highly touted as J-Ho, but make no mistake it is not just his freakish height that has him in the NHL.

OH CRAP! That Bishop kid is a fighter!

It's over man! OVER. They better call Downey up to deal with this Bishop kid!

One of the most pathetic displays I've ever seen. Rarely do you see an entire lineup of cheapshotting ******* going after people like this, that announcer is a ******* joke too.

That clip infuriated me. What a bunch of ******* *******.

No way the fighters were more annoying than the announcer! He was getting wet about that poor turtling bastard they were wailing on in the corner. It looked like assault to me- not a fight :P When the other guy turtles give 'em a shot and let the shame of turtling do the rest... but punching him a few dozen times? Where's the sport in that?

That honour belongs to that kid that the Canadians had practicing with them in camp this year.

Not as highly touted as Jimmy and Jimmy hasn't cracked the NHL either.

I'm not saying he doesn't have any skills. I'm sure its not all size.

but if he was some wonder kid like say Carey Price, then he would be in the NHL right now, he is 21.

Price is the real deal.

Surely that's just too big. I'm all for a goalie being big in the crease but his movement would have to be a major weakness would it not? It'll be interesting to see how he goes.

Stephen Valiquette is 6'6" and he is doing just fine.
