Icesurfer 75 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 (edited) Franzen to have tests done on Sunday.....X-ray and MRI. Click here On post-game interview Babcock said they won't call up anyone unless he goes on LTIR....out 10 games/24 days. Salary cap issues continue, although there is some space. So Mac and Maltby probably will be in the lineup on Monday. Leino not recalled.... Edited October 27, 2008 by Icesurfer
Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 (edited) We've just got to hope that it's not too serious. One negative impact of the injury is that the 4th line looks very weak now. And I don't like the fact that one of Kopecky, Draper, Maltby and McCarty will be on the 3rd line. I wouldn't mind a 3rd line of Hudler-Filppula-Kopecky, the Griffins all back together again. Matt 1,049 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 Even if Franzen were to go on LTIR the Red Wings would to good to not call up anyone in order to preserve even more cap space. But since they're on an extended road trip and calling up players is more troublesome than a drive down 94, they may anyway.

CrossoverThrash 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 At the winter classic i hope sopel gets his ass beat because even though it was an accident he still initiated contact and probably could've tried harder to avoid it.
Elshupacabra 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 Sounds like it's pretty similar to what happened to him last year against the Blackhawks. Well, it sucks that he's going to probably be out that long. Especially since those top two line really seemed to be finding some chemistry the last two games. I guess it's good that he didn't tear ligaments or anything. Get well soon Mule! So is 3-4 weeks long enough for the IR? or are they just going to play with Maltby and McCarty? Guest mindfly Report post Posted October 26, 2008 F*CK this is baaaaaaaaad... 4weeks could be like 10games or so
russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 F*CK this is baaaaaaaaad... 4weeks could be like 10games or so Three weeks is 8 games.... So it may be McCarty and Maltby... Unless they send McCarty down to call up Helm or Leino... I kind of hope the LTIR him and give him the extra week, or send Mac down to call up Leino.... Casey 145 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 Okay, someone explain to me where 3-4 weeks is coming from. TSN has it in their headline, but nowhere in the article.
redwinger4747 6 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 Please just no tear. I dont mind being without him for a month. I just don't want anything serious and want this team healthy and ready to go in April.
rage 24 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 In eight games this season, Franzen has scored five goals and added two assists for seven points. Yikes! I'd like to see Leino up if at all possible.
Seraph 240 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 That just sux on so many levels with one of them being we were really, really really looking forward to seeing him here on Monday. Arrg, I'm going to the game tomorrow too. I missed him during the playoffs in Detroit the first game he was gone as well. Baad news once again. Here's to a good recovery though. Feel better FRANZENSTEIN!!
ArcticWing 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 This is bad news, but not a disaster. After all he's only out for a month. Hopefully he will continue his campaign when healthy again (8GP 5G 2A). Get well soon Mule!
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 (edited) This is terrible news. Franzen was on a tear, goddamn Brent Sopel. Anyways, the Wings wont call anyone up, they'll just move Cleary or Hudler up with Zetterberg, and put the Grind Line back together. We'll be fine, but all of these early injuries are scaring me. Edit: http://redwingscorner.blogspot.com/ Leino called up, guess tehy dont feel so good about the depth anymore. This is also probably the end for Downey getting any games this year, unfortunate. But hopefully Leino does well. Edited October 26, 2008 by Detroit # 1 Fan

Phazon 24 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 sucks, I think franzen has been our best forward actually
Yzermania 156 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 that sucks but as stated earlier, atleast its the beginning of the season Hopefully he'll be back late november or maybe with a speedy recovery, mid november. I was totally looking forward to seeing him tomorrow night because we have glass seats behind the kings net where the wings shoot twice and I was totally pumped to see him grinding along the boards and tearing it up like the beast he is. Too bad, but it will be great seeing the Hoss live for the first time, so I guess it's a little give and take.
GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 Horrible news, since he's probably been the hottest forward in the league since last March. Who's the bastard on the replay that ran into him? I want retaliation for the next game, whether it was intentional or not.

But hopefully Leino does well. I dont think its that. I think its more like whats gonna happen if we lose another top sixer on this road trip? If, say, Hank and Franzen are out, itd be best to have Leino available on the road trip just in case our offense takes a hit. If it were a bottom sixer, we might see a different call-up, but Leino makes the most sense on a road trip when our offense is the only thing winning us games right now..
