We dont have a 4th line

I really like this idea. And it's not impossible to imagine it could happen. I like Sammy, and am not a huge fan of Neil, but I think it would be good for the team. I imagine Sammy will be gone at the end of the season do to the obvious cap/re-signing of players scenario and Leino would be a cheaper replacement for, at least his offence.

But Cleary, in Sammy's absence would be needed on the 2nd line.

IMO it could look something more like this:

The Hoss - Datsyuk - Homer

Mule - Zetterberg - Cleary

Hudler - Filpulla - Neil

Kopecky - Helm - Draper

Matlby

I like, except I think Abby would bring a big physical presence to; he's scoring great in GR and has already been in a fight. Of course really can't go wrong with either him or Helm

I have a hard time seeing Sammy go due to Babcock's man love for him. Samuelsson had more minutes than Hossa last night and is on par with Zetterbg and Datsyuk in minutes. I don't know what it is, but Babcock has never had a bad thing to say about him, and in fact quite the opposite, speaks glowingly of him every chance he gets.

In my nightmare, I see a decision coming down to between Hossa and Sammy next year, and Babcock being the deciding factor in Sammy over Hossa. I wake up screaming...

It's almost hard to utter these words, but...

I've been kind of impressed with Sammy lately. He's starting to play alot better.

Babcock loves him because he shoots the puck and he's responsible defensively. Babcock says "shoot", Sammy says "how much"...

I hope to Jesus we can retain Hossa after this season's up. He's turning out to be awweeeeessssoooommmmeeee. (Like I knew he would all along.)

it would have to be sammy and lebda for neil, ottawa knows he is the kind of guy who can hit, fight, score, he does it all. ottawa needs a forward to fill his spot and would get a respectable forward with decent scoring ability and good defensive awareness plus a puck moving defenseman which they so desperately want and need.

Both are currently expendable in my book

You can add Kopecky too...

In an ideal world we could get rid of kopecky, maltby, mccarty and lebda in one swoop...it won't ever happen though ;)

(much respect to Maltby and Mac, they're just past their prime at this point)

This is my senior year at Michigan State, and when I was a freshman Abdelkader lived 4 doors down from me in my dorm. Over the three years he played here, I went to a decent amount of games and watched him particularly because of the fact that the Wigns drafted him. Lets just say he didn't disappoint me with his play often.

So, all I can really say is that I cannot wait to see what he'll do in a Wings jersey.

waht the heck is up with Sammy??

he's been tryin to play the agitator role... in a silly-bad way. costing us stupid penalties.

Typical.

"Our teammates aren't standing up for each other!"

"What? One guy on the team stood up for another one and took a penalty? What a moron!"

Sort of silly. Of course, even sillier is the fact that you're basing your comment on Sammy's one penalty last night.

Another typical and silly comment: Sammy sucks! Neil is great. Let's trade Sammy for Neil.

lol.

I personally would love to keep them both, I think Sammy has looked great this season. The only reason I think the trade is smart is because we need someone like Neil and it wouldn't be free, the Wings wouldn't give up Malts/Dmac/Draper/Kopecky nor would any team in there right mind want any of them. Plus with Leino looking great or Helm able to step up it makes the ability to change Sammy as much I think he has played great we need a Neil player more. Lebda is just to sweetin the pot; on our end because Ott. would be crazy to take that trash.

as much fuss as we are all making over the 4th line ( and for the record i would love to see some of our young guys out there everynight) the problem i'm seeing is breaking down defensively. this is getting ridiculous how many goals are going in against us and the number of games we've been in ot already. it feels like we're allowing 3 or 4 goals a night. grrrrr!!!

-much respect to mac and malts, they need to retire

-dump kopecky

-sammy gets a lot of assists so i would keep him.

-wings are going to have to get rid of some people and fill those spots with helm, leino, and abdalkader if there is any hope of keeping hossa, mule and z

the thing is yes our defense is weak right now but we need so me people to make the oppistion think before he goes into the zone, because we have NO real checkers on that line. We don't even need a sure fighter but we never replaced Drake who would go all out making people think twice.

Have you ever made a post that didn't put words in peoples mouths, or is it just your preferred technique in trying to make yourself look better?

The fact that Sammy is playing better now would be crucial to trading him, especially for a guy like Neil who isn't a dime a dozen. And it has nothing to do with comparing Sammy and Neil in terms of talent and performance - apples to oranges. If Sammy was traded, his contribution would not be missed and it would only allow more time for guys like Hudler, Cleary, and Filppula to step up. We can't even talk about trading a guy like Neil and how that would impact our team because we have no one like him to speak of, hence his value and hence the reason behind the trade. Neil is not the be all and end all of hockey players but his value to the Red Wings is higher than his non-conditional value, due to the homogeneous nature of our forwards. He is also one of few hard-hitting and enforcing hockey players that Ken Holland would take a look at because he has something to offer in terms of scoring and overall on-ice performance. Neil is not unlike a younger version of Jamal Mayers - a player who the Wings were actively pursuing not 3 years ago.

I am not going to sit here and vouch for Sammy to get traded simply because it is a very unlikely scenario because Babcock clearly likes Sammy. I don't hate Samuelsson and he does provide some value to the team particularly for his salary. My biggest complaint is Babcock's use of Samuelsson in regards to ice time, at the expense of guys like Filppula and Hudler.

Samuelsson was a trainwreck in the Anaheim game and IMO Filppula was absolutely tremendous when he played. Hudler doesn't even get a chance anymore. I don't see anything Samuelsson does that Filppula or Hudler couldn't at least equal or better what Sammy provides (at least in terms of even strength).

Sammy even played more than Hossa last night. That is puzzling.

Careful, you've insulted Crymson. Now he'll make fun of your spelling and try to talk down to you because hes the ******* man...

As for the post topic, we better trade lebda soon so we have some cap space to call up Helm, so we can at least get one of them off it. Seriously its pathetic, maltby and mccarty do not belong in the nhl at all anymore. AT ALL. They seriously are are least physical line now, no exageration, in addition to being the slowest, most likely to be penalized, least offensivily talented and overall sucked the most. Im sure if we had the cap room Leino/abdelkader Helm Draper would be the 4th

Seriously, even they themselves know it but are too proud to hang em up. Its painfully obvious on their face that they are embarassed to play anymore as each shift is like an automatic 5 on3 powerplay for the other team.

4th line looked horrible last night, absolutely awful, as did lebda and sammy, lilja had 1 huge bad giveaway but played rather good the rest of the game, rafalski dispite getting a goal looked bad most of the game. The sharks were playing last year redwing hockey and i am not sure what we were playing, the sharks schooled us like little ******* last night, i almost wish the score was 8-1 so it could kick our boys in the ass. still with a 7-2-2 record i am not worried as i know w will turn this ship around, just not use to seeing our boys get embarrassingly outplayed.

maybe the longest runon sentence ever...not sure :)

I agree ,the fourth line was mostly in trouble in our end last night....I really think they badly need Darren Helm's energy & speed out there. In last springs playoffs Helmer gave us a solid fouth line which kept the puck away from the other team & added a few key goals...with Babcock's short shifting it really worked well. If the present fourth unit ever has to match up against the other guys 1st or 2nd lines...it could be suicidal!
