Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted October 31, 2008 For those of us that aren't giving up on 08-09 yet! Haha...sad but true. I mean, the playoffs arent still 6 months away right? Give San Jose the cup, it's over!
Dano33 41 Report post Posted October 31, 2008 It's no more pointless than the new bashing threads we get every night. You must not have been in the GDT's lately, eh? I have a hard time following the GDTs, rather watch the game without trying to read what everyone is saying. But, who is giving up on the season? I understand some disappointment in players, but thinking the season has gone in the dumps is stupid and those people need to shut up.

puckbags 863 Report post Posted October 31, 2008 For those of us that aren't giving up on 08-09 yet! Giving up? We are 11 games in, I would hope that even the most fairweather fans wouldn't be mailing it in yet. This is so funny because I remeber the epic losing streak of 2007-2008 and how many people were jumping ship...and then after we started to win in the playoffs they slowly started coming back to lgw with their tails tucked between their legs. I could name names but they know who they are.

I just find it funny when new people register each night, and the first thing they do is make a thread about how bad Ozzie is, or how Cleary just flat out sucks. I ignore it. I, however, miss the days when other teams fans would register with threads like "Red Wings suck". Those were always more fun than our own fans bashing people. ben_usmc 253 Report post Posted October 31, 2008 Thank god we have DMac as an enforcer out there. Hell thank god we have such a sweet 4th line, and another American born Norris candidate in Lebda the Great. Seriously not to much to be optimistic about after this game, obviously we have plenty of time to fix the problem. If we are playing like this in game 30 I'll be a bit nervous. I understand Holland and Co. know more then we do but seriously some solutions seem quite obvious....
SwedeLundin77 460 Report post Posted October 31, 2008 Seriously, those who are actually giving up, are mentally incapable of having logical thoughts and reactions in a reality based world. Sure, the Wings have not looked like themselves so far this season, with some exceptions here and there. It is not reason to fret, this is typical once a team comes off of a Stanley Cup run and Win, it's not an excuse, but it's not totally unthinkable either. This is the kind of loss I believe we have needed to have, cause up until now, we have been playing poorly but still winning or gaining at least a point out of it. This loss should leave a real sour taste in the mouth of the entire team, giving some more fuel to the fact that they are playing uncharacteristically bad in their own zone and on the PK. Hell, even Lidstrom has looked out of place at times, especially tonight he made quite a few mistakes which you NEVER see happen as frequently as they have. This should hopefully be a good thing after tonight's loss. I hope to see a rejuvenated and determined team hit the ice on Saturday, ready to battle and play a full 60 minutes of THEIR game. I believe that this play of late is purely just a "funk" and with a little more time (not much) we'll be back on track and racking up points in solid style. So a negative situation has a positive outlook! May I suggest though, that we send McCarty back down to Grand Rapids, bring up Downey, and somehow make room for Leino until Franzen returns... I'd also like to call for Lilja to be dealt and the third pairing be Meech and Chelios with Lebda alternating.
SwedeLundin77 460 Report post Posted October 31, 2008 Oh, and honestly, Kopecky does nothing for me. He is pretty much a wasted spot in our lineup, i'd rather have a Leino - Filppula - Hudler line. Then Downey - Draper - Maltby Seriously, how can you turn those lines down!

But why get rid of Lilja he has been one of our better defenders, Lebda provides nothing great he has speed brings the puck in to the offensive zone then just gets it taken from him. I don't have anything against the guy, but he's not really bringing anything to the table. He's also coming off injury he wasn't even supposed to hit the ice until Nov. last year he actually should some promise even in the last 2 games he has looked much better; wouldn't bat in eye if he gets moved though
Nev 1,085 Report post Posted October 31, 2008 I'll be optimistic when we start holding opponents to 20 shots a game and 2 or less goals a game like last year. Giving up 30+ shots and 3-4 goals a game is not a cause for optimism. And comparing this to winless February is apples and oranges. Then we had 10 starters out injured, including our top 4 D. No excuses now - we're just not playing our suffocating team defence that has been our Hallmark under Babs.

55fan 5,133 Report post Posted October 31, 2008 wow. Some optimistic thread we've got going here. OK, Here's to thinking on the postitive side! looking on the sunny side of the egg! the glass is not half empty, it's half-enjoyed! We're not even close to being out of this yet. Growing up as a Lions fan, I used to hear my dear old dad say, "We're not mathematically eliminated yet!" It'll happen. We worried about Hossa, and look where that got us. We'll come into our own and this rocky 7-2-2 start will be nothing but a bad memory. Go Wings!!!

We'll come into our own and this rocky 7-2-2 start will be nothing but a bad memory. Go Wings!!! Hell could freeze over. Meh, it's a 2 game losing streak. Every team from professionals to District-5 pee wee is going to have a 2-game losing streak in an 80+ game season. Does seem worth warranting such a thread like this to be created, though I understand the original poster's point. If God told me my only choice in an 11-game stretch is to have a 7-2-2 record, I'd take it all day. I'd ask God for a few other things as well, but some of those things would probably be unwise and would send me to Hell and prevent it from freezing over. Talk to me when this team has a serious chance of not missing the playoffs, then I'll worry. Even then, I won't be Negative Nimrod.
