rage 24 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 (edited) http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=254666The chase for Mats Sundin continues and the list of suitors continues to grow with the Anaheim Ducks becoming the latest to throw their hat into the ring. The 37-year old Sundin has begun working out in Los Angeles as rumours continue to swirl about his potential NHL comeback. He is set to meet with Ducks general manager Brian Burke either Tuesday or Wednesday. ---------------------------------------------------- Yuck!!!! e_prime 1,936 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 Sure. Meet with Burke, who will tell him to resign with Toronto. ...cuz that's where Burke will be next year. I don't think Anaheim has the cap space for Sundin???
zata40 3 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 do the ducks even have the room? can someone fill me in?
lets go pavel 2 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 No, they don't have room ... they had to move Schneider to sign Selanne, and they're right up against the cap. Maybe Sundin is considering Toronto and wants to know if Burke is heading that way ...

Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 Seems like they might try to trade Kunitz and Marchant...
LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 ...not unless he is gonna sign for less than 400,000... ...if that's the case, Kenny Get It Done! F--K the Ducks!
Guest DetroitBoy313 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 Anaheim doesn't have the space but Sundin would have to take a HUGE paycut or Anaheim would just have to unload someone significant from their roster.
rage 24 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 Yeah, it makes about as much sense as Sundin meeting with Holland! Could be the whole Toronto factor, but I highly doubt it. Mats probably wants to win this year. The Leafs might not even win next year or the year after.
rage 24 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 Also, I've been hearing about all these teams supposedly willing to send players to the minors to clear cap space. This, I wouldn't put past Burke.
Duck Guy 86 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 burke should sign him for bare minumium that is allowed and then just give him a couple mill off the books to stay in ANA.....

Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 Go Burke! Show the Ducks what you do on your way out of the GM position. Dismantle the future of the team! This is just another chance for Burkie to throw valuable long term pieces away to bring in an aging veteran. Wait. He's exactly the guy to put in the Leafs front office! Finally a change from the way that team's been run for the last decade.
miller76 463 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 I wouldn't put much stock in the idea of Sundin heading to Anaheim. The guys on xm were talking today about why he is working out in L.A. Mostly to not be hassled by the media out here compared to being stalked by them in Toronto. Sundin was also in attendance the other night at Staples Center to see the Kings take on Vancouver. You can make the same arguement that he is still considering a team like Vancouver.

For what it's worth though, you never know what Burke has up his sleeves at times and if he has a way to fit Mats in under the Cap, I'd say his chances of winning a Cup are better in Anaheim than they are in Vancouver. edicius 3,269 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 Anaheim has $626,667 of cap space left. No dice.
Outsider 42 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 burke should sign him for bare minumium that is allowed and then just give him a couple mill off the books to stay in ANA..... Or he could just sign him to a ridiculous contract, only to waive him next year! Oh.....wait....
Esquire 324 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 *yawn* Leafs should sign Gaborik. Besides, if Mats went back to Toronto, Ron Wilson would probably make him a healthy scratch in order to make an example of him. I could go the entire season without hearing about this guy and I wouldn't lose any sleep. He's holding too many teams up whether he means to or not. s*** or get off the pot Mats. stormboy 47 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 (edited) Seems like they might try to trade Kunitz and Marchant... wait, is this based on a source or just a joke? honestly, in some ways it wouldn't surprise me if burke did trade kunitz and marchant to clear cap space so he could get sundin...but you have got to be kidding me. Sundin also met with bigfoot, and space aliens today...(e5) it's only e3 that sundin met with the guy on the grassy knoll. glasgowcelticwing 18 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 i heard kovalchuk mite be a leaf soon anyone else here this? I heard that rumor in a couple of places the past few days but heard it rubbished also. As for Sundin the best thing for him is to head back to the Leafs and finish his career in toronto.
