Mccarty "Another fight"

Dmac landed all the punches in the fight tonight, i dont see why people are bashing him for it

IMO, Dmac has always been a bottom tier heavyweight. Even when he came into the league he had that left hand flailing away but it never had any power behind it. I love Mac for all he's done for us but he's never been a devastating heavyweight. The best beat down I ever saw him give was to Cam Russell and he didn't really even hurt Russell. He knocked him down 3 times but most of it was from leverage and strength and not outright punching power.

Mac's a smart fighter, which has come with experience, but he'll never be mistaken for a knockout puncher.

I have always been a fan of mccarty. He was an exciting player to watch up until the 02 stanley cup finals. He played with heart, and he was a great hitter/grinder that never was shy to fight someone. But i feel what some may have forgot is that even back in his prime he never was a heavy weight fighter, he just never had the size and he was just a guy who faught with fire and emotion which for the most part made him capable to hold his own well. He will always be one of my favorite wings of all time.

Now the hard part. I think it's fine we let mac get back on his feet last playoff run, threw a little cash his way and let him make a comeback attempt in the league. But this has got to stop. It has become a charity case gone wrong. The red wings are the most talented team in the league and one of the toughest teams to make. I feel the only reason mac is stil playing is because of the past he has with the team and it has gone way too long. Every one says mac over downey because he can contribute more to the team..... uh what? mccarty skates like he is just learning how to for the first time, once he finally gets control of the puck he loses his balance or simply turns it over, and his fighting ability, the thing he is supposed to still be able to do, has diminished in to a sad excuse for what he once was able to do. Downey is even a better skater at this point in my opinion and hands down i think we all know he is a better fighter currently.

Mccarty, you were great. But it's time to think about the present and what is best for the team.

It looked like McCarty was GETTING hugged, rather than hugging. Clarkson wouldn't give him any room to unload. Was not a great fight but it served its purpose.

McCarty fights a MW, and its a boring hugging match.

Downey fights a MW, and TKO's him. Bring back DOWNEY!!!

Clarkson did a good job of tying Mac up. You can see where he'd have his right hand back and Clarkson just had his arm locked to prevent the punch from coming through.

The sad thing is that most fights are pretty boring and this is by no means the worst. Maybe one in ten are actually worth watching. Was Drake v. Perry that good last year; or Cleary v. Pronger? No. This was more of a fight than either of those.

And FYI guys, if Downey is in GR and McCarty is in Detroit then Downey is not a better option.

Mac got in two nice shots to the face at the start of the fight.

Which go along nicely with the total of 2 minutes he played Saturday. I think it is safe to say Babs is not real high on Mac's play. I am amazed he is even still on the roster. Kenny must really feel bad for Mac and his financial troubles.

So, for those of you who want Downey up and Mac down, how many are just thinking out loud and wishing, and how many have an actual plan for this to fit in under the cap?

I want them both up, but that's impossible and I realize that. Just thinking out loud.

The above in bold is the only reason that I can see why McCarty is even on the team.

Once Franzen is back in, neither one will be in the lineup. If for some reason a spot does open, Downey should clearly be filling the role that McCarty is in. They both make the same amount of money.

EDIT: With Cleary out, McCarty gets to fight another day I guess.

If I realistically thought that they would actually dump Kopecky I'd include that as an available roster spot too, unfortunately he gets the Hossa friend/Loyalty credit in the same way McCarty does I guess.
