FireCaptain 563 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 I was multi tasking during the game, so I don't remember anything noticeable around the time they say this happened. Oilers C Fernando Pisani broke his ankle as he slid into the boards feet first as he battled for the puck with the Red Wings' Nicklas Lidstrom with a little under 15 minutes left in the third period. MacTavish said that Pisani, who was on crutches after the game, would be out at least a month. Very end of the article - here.
lfd250 1 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 It was a race to the puck in the corner. Same corner that took out all the wings last year.
Donaldjr2448 43 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 Man, that is too bad for him. It was kind of an innocent play and then Pisani's leg got caught against the boards!! I guess that means that Penner will play on Tomorrow against Columbus and us on Thursday!! I feel bad for Pisani, I think he is a hell of a forward, and I will always remember him kicking our asses in the 2005 playoffs!! Get well soon Fernando!! Louisville 112 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 All these crazy leg injuries lately....I'm getting kinda nervous here. I had a feeling he was going to be out of a while, it looked extremely painful the way Pisani hit those boards.
AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 Penner had better get his fitness level and desire cranked up REAL quick.
Gutierrez 7 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 That sucks. I just recovered last month from fracturing my ankle so I definitely know how it feels. I feel for Pisani. Didn't he have some kind of life/career threatening illness last season and now this happens, tough break.
skacore 2 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 Unfortunate for him but it could have as easily been Lidstorm, Pisani actually nudged Lidstrom it looked like, in a high speed race... dangerous...
Namingway 146 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 It was classy of Lidstrom to check on him when he went down. Lids knew it was bad... anyone else notice Lidstrom's body language when it happen? Yeah I noticed that and thought the same when I saw him give that little bump. Hope he gets well soon!

Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 Sucks to see that happen, here's to a speedy recovery. On the other hand, somewhere MacTavish just sighed - Penner's coming back sooner than expected
maltbymaniac 13 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 i thought it looked like he was,but he was actually just trying to regain his balance. not checking on pisani
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 Sucks to see that happen, here's to a speedy recovery. On the other hand, somewhere MacTavish just sighed - Penner's coming back sooner than expected I doubt it. They'll put in Boulerice or call up Brule from the AHL. MacT isnt going back to Penner for a while.

With all the crap that MacT's said about Penner lately, he isn't going to go back on all that just because Pisani got injured.
Copenhagen848 58 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 You could see his leg/foot get turned in a weird way when he hit the boards, I could tell something bad happened. It looked pretty gross actually.
Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted November 18, 2008 (edited) All these crazy leg injuries lately....I'm getting kinda nervous here. I had a feeling he was going to be out of a while, it looked extremely painful the way Pisani hit those boards. Yeah, it looked like his ankle though. He really jammed it in there and rolled it abit. I'm surprised he broke his leg. I thought ankle the whole time. Oh wait, nevermind it was his ankle. Edited November 18, 2008 by GordieSid&Ted
hokeychik22 17 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 I feel bad for Pisani. When i saw the teammates help him off the ice, and he couldn't or even lift his other leg to get on the bench, four guys helped him, i knew something bad was wrong. Since i broke the neck of my femur in may when ever i see someone injured i can't help but feel their pain even if they are on the other team. Wishing Pisani a Speedy Recovery! The Mule 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 It's too bad all these players are going down to injury, but on the other hand, all these teams are becoming a tiny bit easier to play against, which is nothing but good news for us.
12Newf 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 after i saw him go down and the look on lidstroms face i knew it was bad and after the first replay i knew he broke it. sucks for pisani because the guy has had some bad luck especially when he lost like a whole season with colitis or something. DRWExaminer 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 I suffered the exact same injury in the same way, albeit in my men's league. One month is REALLY optimistic. I spent six weeks in a cast then four more weeks in daily therapy before I was able to skate in a game again. He's in way better shape than I was at the time of my injury, but I can't see him returning that quick. Plus , I saw him come out of the Wings medical room right after the game on crutches and with a boot on. He looked sick (his skin was greyish/white). Just an awful site to see someone in that much pain.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 TBH, I'm surprised it wasn't worse. The way his skate/foot went into the boards and the way it must have "pulled" at the back of the ankle could've been a season ending injury. I'm not a doctor (even though I stayed at Holiday Inn Express last night), but that could've ripped part of his Achilles Tendon. Unfortunate for him and the Oilers.
