Just a note for all of you who feel Hudler should be on the fourth line:

Red Wings forward scoring, arranged by points per game:

1. Marian Hossa 18GP, 10g-13a-23pt, +6 (1.28PPG)

2. Henrik Zetterberg 16GP, 10g-8a-18pt, +2 (1.13PPG)

3. Pavel Datsyuk 18GP, 6g-12a-18pt, +7 (1.00PPG)

4. Johan Franzen, 13GP, 9g-3a-12pt, E (0.92PPG)

5. Jiri Hudler 18GP, 6g-10a-16pt, -2 (0.89PPG)

5. Mikael Samuelsson 18GP, 4g-12a-16pt, +1 (0.89PPG)

7. Tomas Holmstrom 17GP, 7g-6a-13pt, +8 (0.76PPG)

8. Dan Cleary, 13GP, 2g-4a-6pt, -3 (0.46PPG)

9. Valtteri Filppula, 18GP, 2g-5a-7pt, -1 (0.39PPG)

10. Tomas Kopecky, 18GP, 1g-2a-3pt, E (0.17PPG)

11. Kirk Maltby, 17GP, 1g-1a-2pt, E (0.12PPG)

12. Darren McCarty, 11GP, 1g-0a-1pt, -2 (0.09PPG)

13. Kris Draper, 18GP, 0g-1a-1a, -8 (0.06PPG)

14. Darren Helm, 2GP, 0g-0a-0pt, E (0.00PPG)

If Franzen fails to post a point next game, and Hudler registers one, Hudler moves into fourth on the list. Given that Franzen plays a lot of minutes with a guy ahead of him on the list, and Hudler does not, as well as the difference in overall minutes played, I wonder if we'll be seeing a 'Hudler is a Top 20 NHL forward' thread soon.

Hudler doesn't perform on the 2nd line, we see it over and over again. He's well suited for where he plays, on the 3rd/4th line and the 1b PP unit. Hudler has 10 PP points which is extremely respectable and he leads the wings along with Lidstrom, so don't get me wrong. BUT, Take away his PP points and he has 6 points for .33 P/G..which is behind a lot of people. Jesus give it up already.

We don't see it over and over again; he's only played like 3 games on the second line in his career. He only plays 12 minutes a game. Give him more time, see if he scores more.

Of course he only has 6 even strength points. He plays with lesser offensive players at even strength and sees few minutes there as well. Take away his PP time and he plays some 8 minutes a game with the likes of Kopay, Filppula, Maltby, and Draper. Nothing special there..

I was at the game tonight - really fun to watch.

Even though Hossa didn't register a point, he really impressed me. He seemed to make something happen every shift. Brad Stuart looked good from where I was too.

I like Hudler, but he's not better than Franzen. Someone else pointed out that he never performs on higher lines. He thrives with less playing time and having weaker opponents to play against. When he's been put on the 2nd line, his offensive skills dry up for the most part.

I say leave him where he is extremely effective.

Exactly. He had all of 2 or 3 games to prove himself on the second line, and I doubt he even had 16+ minutes in that role anyway. And here are people saying he failed and can't score on a scoring line.

Hudler= GUN.

Without flipping through 25 pages, why no Kronner or Homer?

Homer developed back spasms on game day. Kronner had a sore ankle and rested as a precaution.

i love line combos...yum

The pizza pretzel ones are good too

Pretty good game for the Wings, certainly difficult to find motivation when your up by 3.

I have only one gripe, Can someone for the love of god please tell Kopy to zip up his frigin pants.

I'd hold onto Hudler pretty tight come contract time. I'd be willing to bet he starts getting more ice time- he's showing that he truly deserves it.

Hudler has been great, we all know that, but be aware Franzen has played five less games than Jiri, so what exactly is your point? They both deserve their fair share of ice time, but Franzen undoubtedly deserves more.

i agree with you EVA, hudler has been beastly with his limited TOI. but you know his showing up last night has gotta mean something to babcock. i like to think that babcock is a coach that gives you an inch and expects you take a mile. hudler definitely took a mile last night. he had great positioning on that first goal, and great will and vision on the second. i hope he gets more time, he has earned it.
