Guest Shoreline Report post Posted December 12, 2008 (edited) Apparently you're not going to waste your time actually answering anyone's questions either. You're right ... we're all staring at utter futility. K. I had posted an article earlier about how during his time with the Kings Avery ripped on Dustin Brown mercilessly, among other people, until it led to fist fights in the lockerroom. After the year of the French Canadian incident, allegedly calling Laraque a monkey, and getting into a profanity-filled tirade with a Ducks announcer, the GM said he was on "double secret probation." He was suspended by the team near the end of his stay there. As for the Rangers, I'm not really sure. I didn't follow him that closely there, but it seemed relatively quiet, minus the stick waving thing and having his name show up in a hooker's phonebook. They didn't re-sign him though, in spite of him playing well for the Rags. It sounds like from early on in Dallas he was not really a part of the team. That's not all on him, but I'm guessing a lot of it is that the team is struggling and Avery seems more interested in his attention than winning hockey games. Precisely why the Stars didn't feel bad either. If Avery's going to try to gather up attention to himself with this method, he should probably pursue his fashion career rather than a team sport. If he would have stirred it up on the ice, it would have been far more productive, for the team, fans, and game. Clearly Avery has a history behind this as well, which is why I'm sure the Stars will do what's in their best interests to clean up their own locker room, starting with him. drwscc 212 Report post Posted December 12, 2008 Yeah, look how well that working out for them. Avery *was* the cause of all their issues. Now that he's suspended, Turco has stopped looking lost out there, all their injured players have been magically cured..it's a miracle! They've won all their games since he was suspended, right? HOCKEY MATTERS 167 Report post Posted December 12, 2008 Has someone said Avery was the cause of all their issues? Probably not, but in this trainwreck of a thread it will get twisted into the conversation somehow. Probably good for 5 - 7 pages of drivel.

Clearly Avery has a history behind this as well, which is why I'm sure the Stars will do what's in their best interests to clean up their own locker room, starting with him. But every team he played on had better records with him than without. I actually did the research a week ago. From the time he left Detroit, ever team he played on increased their point totals. And in the instances where his team made the playoffs, when they added Avery they got further in the playoffs than the year prior w/o him. Really only Dallas has struggled with him. But they have huge injuries and aren't playing well at all which can't all be blamed on Avery. Of course the Stars sure are quick to jump on his ass and make it appear that way. Well, that's my interpretation anyway.
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted December 12, 2008 To me it seems like because Dallas is already having serious problems, the last thing they want to spend time dealing with is Sean Avery. He's not the problem (well, not the biggest one anyway), but he's certainly a distraction for a team that desperately needs to get its act together.

In his case, you're either part of the team's motivation, or, given the occurrence, you're the reason (i.e. scapegoat) for their new-found motivation. Not that it guarantees success (have personnel changes really guaranteed the same?), but it at least creates a better environment.

servo 15 Report post Posted December 14, 2008 http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=398040 Not a surprise to me that Dallas would opt out on having him return. I think this may put a little egg in Hull's face, but I doubt it will have any long term implications on his status in management. I wonder who will be willing to give him a roster spot, and with that over inflated contract of his, I don't see him playing in the NHL this year.

Get it done! *ducking for cover* This post is ficticious. I think Avery's antics are funny because they are happening to other teams. That crap wouldn't be funny if it was happening on the Wings. There are a ton of other players of his caliber for cheaper and less drama.

Wings_Rule_1010 4 Report post Posted December 14, 2008 Considering some of the anonymous quotes from Stars' players, I am not suprised. It will be interesting to see where he ends up, if anywhere at all. He could always do fashion right? Wasn't he an intern at like Vouge over the summer? If he used the four letter equivelent I could see this kind of reaction. That is one hell of a contract to eat over such a dumb infraction. Personally I would rather see people like Pronger kicked off teams and suspended for doing dumb s*** on the ice that could actually hurt people, not just their feelings. Yeah, Hully must have been brainwashed by Bettman when he went to visit him.
