pjgj13 30 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 There should be a ban on goalie bashing threads. As long as the Wings are winning, things can't be all that bad. I mean come on people, the Wings will probably lose LESS games than the Lions. Now that is SAD!
mmorland 16 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 I love Osgood and he was outstanding last spring, but the fact is he has been horrible this year and is not showing any signs of getting better. Conklin has looked pretty bad as well, so the Wings really need to go out and get a goalie, or atleast bring up Howard from the minors. How many more games can we be giving up 4 plus goals until it catches up with us. Maybe Hasek can un-retire again! This site is out of control sometimes
mmorland 16 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 My goodness, every day there is a new thread about this crap. The Red Wings do not need a new goalie. They already have two very good goalies. The defense needs to play at a much higher level. Ozzie can get better and so can Conklin, but they can only do so much without some intensity and focus from the defense. Jimmy Howard, an AHL goalie with minimal NHL experience, is not the answer to the problem. If two proven capable NHL goalies are being victimized by poor defensive play, Howard isn't going to help the cause. The Red Wings will fix the defensive issues or they can count on plenty of golf next spring. 18-4-4 for all the panickers. Things really aren't all that bad. maltbyrocks18 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 what bothers me are the games where both oz and conk have less than 20 shots on net and let in 3 or more goals. blame all the defense you want, but if your goaltender can't take 20 shots a game he needs to pick another profession. evil204 4 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 It really isn't Osgood's fault, although he can play better. He looked great last year because our defense did an amazing job limiting the opposition's scoring chances and, most importantly, the quality of those chances. That hasn't been the case this year. I couldn't believe all the people that thought Osgood should've been MVP last spring. I think our defense needs to get A LOT better before we can criticize Osgood. Never_Retire_Steve 35 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 A lot of people come on here saying that they hate the goalie threads....... fine, I can definitely see that and wouldn't like it if someone was bashing my favorite player either. Having said that, for all these people on their soap boxes telling people that these types of threads shouldn't exist should make sure that they aren't being hypocrites. I say this because I see a lot of these same posters saying things like Turco in Dallas is playing terrible and shouldn't use Sean Avery as a scapegoat for his poor play. Well, I gotta say that if you are going to say that then don't use the Wings defensemen for Osgood's poor play. The fact of the matter is that saying Osgood is playing good right now is an insult to him. It's basically saying that he is expected to mediocre.
ben_usmc 253 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 The goalies have been bad, quite trying to put the complete blame on the defense. Although the D has been average the goalies have been BAD.

NC WINGS FAN 5 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 Some things never change in that we never really had a "premier goaltender", except Hasek at the end of his career in 02. Ozzie and Vernon were no slouches but not Roy or Brodeur. Despite that, the Wings have been able to win 4 cups in 11 years. Last year the Wings had the best defense in the league and won it all despite shaky goaltending in the post season. Having said that, I agree that the defense must first improve before we go worrying about goal tending.

I would agree depending on where the shots are coming from. If they are coming from a mile away or from outside, then I would agree totally, but if guys are crashing the net, then I blame the defense. The goalie can only do so much. It is a team sport, so it goes both ways. I agree that we can use some help at goal, but at this point, it is just not in the cards. However, the pieces are in place for the defense to be the league's best but the motivation just does not quite seem to be where it needs to be.... from what I have seen. Never_Retire_Steve 35 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 I think a trade would be good with Edmonton, except no way would I take Roloson (Garon or DesLauriers on the other hand I would take in second)
DatsyukownzU13 1 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 I think a trade would be good with Edmonton, except no way would I take Roloson (Garon or DesLauriers on the other hand I would take in second) Why? Garon is never going to be a good goalie in the NHL. DesLauriers is pretty unproven, we already have a couple of those in our system. Roloson can steal games single-handedly. Take saturdays game against San Jose as an example (outshot 41-17, but won). I am not saying I would trade for him though, just wondering.

Yeah, Roloson can be spectacular as we've seen from San Jose and the playoffs a couple years back. But I really wouldn't want him, I feel like hes too inconsistent. We shelled him for 3 goals on 10 shots.

Garon's upside is way bigger than Roloson's, what has Rollie ever done in his career other than one cup run? Garon is more talented than Roloson and has way more upside. Not saying I would necessarily make the trade either, but if there was one available that would be the trade I make.

Never_Retire_Steve 35 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 I think that we should lean towards doing nothing this year in terms of our roster and agree that we should probably calm down. However, after 15 years of being the best or near the best of the league, fans need something to ***** about it seems. Goalie debates, lack of grit, players who are lazy and suck (or useless), etc. But if given the opportunity to hand pick any goalie over our current tandem, I think there would be about 20 teams out there that I would make a trade with. Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 (edited) The team needs to focus on the real problem, which is defense, before it can turn to goaltending. This. The problem is defense, not goaltending. The Wings' D, when it's clicking, can make a good goalie look amazing. As much as I love Ozzie, the D helped him look amazing last season. Right now, the D is not clicking and is hanging Ozzie -- and now Conklin -- out to dry. Edited December 8, 2008 by Dabura

I don't like 5-4 SO victories as much as 3-1 victories either, but the team is yet to mesh and we are still winning an ass load of games. Howard isn't doing great in GR and from all accounts Larrson is moving up the chain as the goaltender of the future. And by finishing with a comment suggesting we would be better with Hasek, you're basically letting us dismiss it all as if you finished with "Nevermind, I'm insane enough to think its 2002 and Hasek will improve our goaltending"

OsGOD 3 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 We don't need a new goalie.... WE NEED NEW FANS!!!!! <-- ones that are not used to only winning and ones that can be tough enough to suffer through these trying times when the team is playing s***ty and losing more games than they win... Seriously we need a new fan base that can tolerate not being the best in our division!
