Chelios57 31 Report post Posted December 31, 2008 If anything that's the main reason why he SHOULD be playing, he has more NHL experience playing outdoors than anyone else. I simply do not care though. If the Wings lose this game I can totally live with it. I personally am more excited for the experience above all else.
steveyzerman 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2008 Being backup in the cold is even worse. Touche.
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted December 31, 2008 There shouldn't be any need for the backup to play. Or at least if I am Babs, there would be no substitutions, no matter what the score looks like. This game will be for fun, as well as for two points, but isn't worth risking the health of any player in an effort to win. Conks will be the only Wings goalie on the ice tomorrow, barring injury. That's the right move in so many ways, it's not even up for discussion at this point.

Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted December 31, 2008 I love Osgood, but Conklin is like the octopus of outdoor NHL hockey. When he retires, I'm hunting his ass down and chunking him onto the ice during the Winter Classics.
Cern 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2008 I simply do not care though. I'm sure Babcock will take that into consideration :|
Chelios57 31 Report post Posted December 31, 2008 Poor Ozzy, just saw a video of him at Wrigley. He seems kinda sad he can't play.
StormJH1 231 Report post Posted December 31, 2008 Poor Ozzy, just saw a video of him at Wrigley. He seems kinda sad he can't play. Yeah, playing Conklin definately makes more sense. Nostalgia is nice, but I don't see much value in having Osgood's Winter Classic marked by exiting between the 1st and 2nd periods due to injury, and proceeding to miss another month or two afterwards. Three Stanley Cup wins are all the nostalgia Osgood needs.
j.hoop 64 Report post Posted December 31, 2008 well would you rather ozzie play in the classic, and possibly hurt the groin even more? that should be the only question you have to ask. as for conks, im all for it. hes been there twice, knows a little more what to expect than the others who havent. last night franzen said hes never played out doors before. you gotta think conklin can bring a little more to the table having done it twice. go conks i hope you have the game of your life tomorrow :goalie1:
