TheCaptain19 49 Report post Posted January 1, 2009 I dont know about you guys, but I loved the way our Winter Classic jerseys looked out there. They really were awesome. There have been countless debates on here regarding Detroit getting a third jersey, and messing with "tradition". Well, I think that these jerseys would be a great choice to become our future thirds. I've heard that in a couple years every team is going to be required to have a one anyway, and these ones were really sharp. I loved em. Thoughts?
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted January 1, 2009 They weren't half bad, but give me a winged wheel any day. Pass on the third jersey.
Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted January 1, 2009 I loved them, personally. Classic colors, an oldschool look with the patterns without looking corny, the old english D gives a sense of an overall Detroit spirit perfect for special games.. and NO BLACK. I don't know if I'd want it to be the 3rd jersey, something that looks similar to it would be great. My ideal third jersey look for the Wings is the same colors, a design that looks retro but not silly, the winged wheel or the D works for me (or both).. overall, the words I'd use are distinguished, tradition, and (dare I say it here) classy. Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted January 1, 2009 They looked great, for sure. That said, there's no need for a third jersey. Look back on the history of thirds. There's only 2 teams now that have never had third jerseys, and that's the Wings and the Devils. The only time the Wings have used thirds was in 91-92 (for the NHL's 75th anniversary. The NHL mandated that all Original 6 teams wear throwbacks), and then today. So, long story short, the only times the Wings have worn a jersey OTHER than their current unis are when the NHL mandates they have to. Odds are, that's the ONLY way they'll ever do that, is if the league mandates that all teams have to make a third jersey. The Wings have had ample opportunity to jump on the "third jersey" bandwagon, and have wisely avoided doing so. I'd put my money on them staying that course for as long as Mike Ilitch owns this team. Cern 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2009 I've been hearing that in a few seasons third jerseys will become mandatory for all teams. No idea if it's true or not but I'd have no problem with Detroit taking Pittsburgh's lead and using the WC jersey as a third.
Zion 93 Report post Posted January 2, 2009 I'm completely against the idea of a third jersey. However, I've decided that the Red Wings WC jersey will be the jersey of my hockey team. Now if I can just find them uncrested, I'll put the Toledo Storm XV logo on one of the shoulders and leave the Winged Wheel on the other. Even the guy who runs icethetics, the jersey guy said, dont look for a third jersey for Detroit anytime soon. Even though I do like the WC jersey enough to buy the authentic Lidstrom one. Its a badass jersey.

betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted January 2, 2009 These jerseys looked terrific. Loved them. Could have done without the Cat in the Hat socks - in fact I think the regular ones with the one thick stripe would have looked really good with the jersey - but these were more authentic. They looked spectacular. Liked the choice of red helmets, too. That said, forget the third jersey. These are great as a special jersey for a special occasion. Not for wearing on Thursday nights or whatever just to drum up merchandise sales.

Maaq 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2009 If we do follow Pittsburgh's lead and use our WC jerseys, tell me, after how many home games are we going to wear them? Are we going to do like Montreal and only use them once every 35 games? Seriously, as nice as they were, we would never use them.

Honestly I don't see the harm in it, if anything I'd say that if it was made a third jersey it would look even better than most teams' standard uniforms, and it's not like it would replace the home jerseys. Maaq 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2009 True. Well, I wouldn't mind it, but we should really just use them on special occasiones ... like ... Playoffs? That would be killeeeeeerrrrr

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted January 2, 2009 I love them, and got one for Christmas from my fiance. I love the old-fashioned look. I generally hate third jerseys, and I'd like to keep this as a one-off, special memento of an amazing event and victory.
sjradio 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2009 I got a gift card from the NHL store for christmas and order a Lidstrom jersey.. I'll bet you'll be able to find a few dozen Hawks jersey's on ebay, after the choke job by the Hawks after the first, I'll bet more than a few Hawks fans want to get rid of any memory of yet another loss to the Wings. Zion 93 Report post Posted January 2, 2009 I thought it was. I went to some of his camps and he came to some of my high school practices my freshman year to work with me and the other goalies. Yeah, I really wish I'd been more involved in hockey when I was younger. He was always a hardass, but we learned a lot from him. He's lightened up a bit now, having more fun with the game. This explains the repetitive "Can I get these uncrested?" in the China jersey thread!!! Is it just me or were the numbers really hard to see on TV? Not in HD, brother. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted January 2, 2009 I liked them a good bit, they stood out but weren't hard on the eyes or overwhelming. Kinda wished they had the jersey numbers on the side but that's just me. In terms of the whole 3rd jersey bit, I never really have seen the harm in them as long as they aren't hard on the eyes like your standard jerseys. It's just a jersey. Indifferent on the concept of them more often than not so I'm not going to lose sleep if Detroit adapts a 3rd.

Zion 93 Report post Posted January 2, 2009 No, the candy cane socks can go. Love the jerseys, dammit. I deliberately DID NOT get an RBK white practice jersey with my gift card today because I think I might try and get a WC jersey. FUG!!!
