MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 Huge surprise that Burke's first trade brings in Brad May. Conditional pick to Anaheim.
GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 I've always hated May (Lou Siffer isn't here to defend him anymore ) and always will. The guy was a dirty s.o.b. throughout his career and would constantly jump players off the gun. I wish him the worst of luck in Toronto.
Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 Interesting..didn't Burkie say he is interested only in picks?
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 Huge surprise that Burke's first trade brings in Brad May. Conditional pick to Anaheim. You told me he wasn't interested in picking up veterans! Nah, I actually like this move. He's making almost nothing (600K) and adds some much needed veteran leadership to the forwards. 600k is dirt cheap, and assuming the conditional pick is very low this is a great move for the Leafs. May is a good example, in his younger days at least, of a driven player who gives everything and is gritty as all hell. I'm sure they want Schenn to mature into this type of blood and guts player. It's a conditional 6th rounder in 2010. Apparently the condition is based on May re-signing, so I can't imagine that'll happen.

BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 I wouldn't be surprised if the Leafs ended up with Bertuzzi eventually.

Well in that case it was a great pick up. He's definitely worth 600k to the Leafs.

miksteri 55 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 I wonder how many of the ducks crooks hes bringing into toronto.... interestingly that only douchebag pronger is signed to ducks for the next season... will burke trade for him too?
cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 Ah, "Skateaway" May. Mayor Miller of Toronto is planning the route for the Stanley Cup parade as we speak. May was in Vancouver when Burke was GM there as well. This may be the first of many deals coming to "Anaheim East".
Louisville 112 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 stupid. I wouldn't say that. Burke essentially got a player for free and one he is also familiar with. Pretty safe bet when you've got nothing to lose.
Rivalred 630 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 Now I am wondering if they may trade May to another team for picks later on towards the trade deadline?
Vincanni 1 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 Burke seems infatuated with this guy, first in Vancouver, then in Anaheim, now with Toronto? I bet if Burke had a time machine he'd go back to his glorious reign as GM of the Whalers and try to wing a trade for May.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 Now I am wondering if they may trade May to another team for picks later on towards the trade deadline? Potentially. I think it probably paves the way for Mayers or somebody like that to be moved out.
Rivalred 630 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 Potentially. I think it probably paves the way for Mayers or somebody like that to be moved out. Agreed. I do not follow the Leafs that closely anymore, but it does make sense. Smart move.
skacore 2 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 I love it. An ideal 2nd tier fighter for cheap, who brings leadership. Whether he brings anything on the ice or not is pretty irrelevant, he is there to change the team's attitude and image.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 Good move. Toronto need some character.
StaticWithABeat 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 Yes, when he's not busy punching non-fighters unconscious or slashing people in the face he's got tons of character. My thoughts aside, he does have a reputation for being a good team guy, so hopefully he will do good things for Toronto.
grsbmd 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2009 I thought this was going to be a joke topic at first. Everybody was saying the first move Burke would make was to acquire Brad May. Is he secretly Brian Burke's son or something?

skacore 2 Report post Posted January 8, 2009 He could soon move Kaberle also http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=262423&...os=topStory_nhl Kaberle @ 4.25 is an incredible deal, I'm excited to see who he might bring in for that.
mjlegend 155 Report post Posted January 8, 2009 It's been a good two or three years since Kaberle skated like he gave a crap so I almost forget what he looks like on a good team. Ditto with Kubina.
