Red Wings are right on track

At the beginning of the season I heard or read that Ken Holland's goal was for the Wings to win seven out of every ten games. And with 28 wins through 40 games, the wings are perfectly on pace. It's amazing that they can play that well. It's pretty hard to win seven out of ten games. To put that into perspective, if a baseball team won seven out of ten games, they would win 113 games in that season. So for all those that complain on here just think about these numbers.

No one has complained in the past 5-7 games or so, when the Wings finally remembered how to play defense. They've finally been able to shake off the Stanley Cup Hangover. Fortunately, it only took them half a season, and not the entire season, as was the case with Anaheim last year.

To be honest, though, the Wings SHOULD be able to keep a pace of 7 out of 10 games, if not better. They have 3 Dmen who are capable top 2 Dmen, they have 5 Dmen who are capable top 4 Dmen, they have 2 goalies who are capable starters, they have 9 forwards who are capable top 6 forwards, and they have 3 players who are capable of being the #1 player on 70% of teams in this league. No other team in the league has that kind of depth. If the Wings could add some sort of sparkplug to their 4th line, which is more often than not outworked by the oppositions 4th line, then they would have a team for the ages (if they dont already). I honestly can't think of many games this season where, if the Wings had played as well as they can, they would have still lost.

Man, I'd love to see Helm get a decent chance. Everytime he's up he has great energy and speed.

Kopecky has yet to show me anything that makes me feel he deserves his place on the team.

As for the OP, the numbers lie a little bit this season, but lately the Wings have been playing great.

If nothing unexpected happens (like serious injuries on multiple players), I definitely think they can finish the season with a 7 out 10 record.

I look at the standings and I see the Wings 2nd in the western conference, only behind by 2 points. That's allright with me.

Granted Boston is 1st overall, but they are playing in a weaker conference. I mean, yeah Malkin is racking up the points in Pittsburgh, but would he have that many if he played in the Western conference more often? I doubt it.

I'm happy with where the Wings are. I just wish Osgood would get his best game back, hopefully he will before playoffs.

If the Wings D is as good as it was against the Stars, we could have a new contest of "Play goal for the Wings" and have a fan play in net :P

You will get to see Helm get his chance again. Come playoff time, rosters expand and the cap does not effect the playoff season. Helm will be in there every playoff game. He's better off in GR playing 18 min a night then Detroit playing 5-6 a night through the regular season

I am pleased on how they're playing right now. I guess since they found out how to play defense they can't be stop.

Don't worry, when they see that they blow all teams out of the water, they will relax again and start playing questionable defense again.
