Seriously...i mean, sure the guys in the comp are good but i've yet to see any of them pull off anything close to as spectacular as the "move" that datty has ripped apart turco, vokoun, and (forget other goalie's name) with. I hate this fan voting system to get the all stars picked as its not the best talent anymore, its a popularity contest...and the breakaway comp is the same way....so no matter who has the greatest looking shot....it comes down to whoever has the most fans watching it...aka crosby most likely....i pray to god that Kane or Ovy do something so ******* sick that crosby cries all over the ice and then slips and breaks his neck on it....crosby has talent yes, but he is the most overrated/overhyped player in recent history....ovechkin beats him on BOTH ENDS of the ice if you ask me...and so do dats and Z as far as complete players go.

To me, having the voting done by fans just assures that people watch and get into it....not that we have the best matchup possible in the AS game for the most exciting game possible...which is the way it SHOULD be

I'm fine with it. People want to see something that has not been seen before. If Dats has something up his sleeve i'd rather see him pull it off during a game than letting the whole world see it in a meaningless breakaway challenge.

Favoritism is the theme this year, yet again...why in the hell would the league leave the player with the most electrifying moves in the entire league out of this competition??? Simple, just like already mentioned above....because they don't want him to win it. Thank god for the Red Wings, or I don't even think I'd watch hockey anymore...I hate the NHL. The day they lose Bettman is the day the league moves forward....

Skills comp is boring I fell asleep last year and I am suprised that the players did not fall asleep themselves.

But on a side note I like watching the actually all star game I dont know why people dont at least like that part of it.

QFT thats it on the head right there dude...i HATE what the NHL has become. Bettman is trying to turn it into figure skating with sticks. And to the guy above, i know dats isn't in it because the lineup for this comp has already been announced...but to whoever said u heard he might not go...i'd love to see him skip it too...just show the league he could really give a s*** about their marketing ploys...using the most popular guys instead of the most talented. well he's obviously one of the best stickhandlers in the stick, but he wasn't really spectacular or anything in last year's breakaway competition, i see no problem giving other guys a chance rather than seeing the same guys go all the time

this....was more or less my point...it should be the most talented at it, not the most popular. I'd say malkin is probably more exciting to watch during a shootout than crosby. Hell, even hossa, and not because he's a wing....but i like to see what he'll pull off...even though he likes to just let em rip...i think its still an exciting shot to watch.

Last year I think Datsyuk didn't really understand the concept of it... He just went in, scored and tried to score and didn't really do anything out of the ordinary. The fans booed and he was hella confused.

Last year Gaborik was not in the fastest skater contest, even though he's probably the fastest skater in the league. The skills competition has become a joke.

Does anyone know if they plan on having the same format for the fastest skater competition as they had last year?

Also, are they having another stupid, high scoring young-stars game? If so, they should get rid of it and bring back what they used to have in the mid 90's right before the skills competition, when they'd just have old timers coming out there and playing hockey. That was more fun to watch then seeing a bunch of 3 on 0 breakaways.
