Will the Wings have enough players to play?

Rate this topic

thats an interesting question, and im looking forward to someone that can answer it. there must be some kind of loophole if financial problems get in the way, or maybe you just have to play people on multiple lines? im not sure. i know meech can fill in as forward, and chelios can play d, but im unsure if thats the solution.

edit: i assume you are talking about dats and the captain being suspend also?

With only 22 players on the roster, possibly four players out with injuries and "injuries," and no cap room can they play with only 18 players?

i think they would simply drop them off the roster which would clear up cap room to bring up guys from grand rapids

It's a big f*cking problem, as they are supended with pay -- and happen to be the Wings two most expensive players.

Holland has cap room to bring some guys up for a game, but it screws the Wings over in that they have been trying to conserve as much cap space as possible.

Is that the rule? I was thinking you had to have at least 18 or 19 dressed. If that's the case, there is really no other problem.

Technically all you have to have is two forward lines and two defense pairings and two dressed goalies to start a game. If a team ever goes below 10 skaters during a game due to injuries/GMs then that team must forfeit as they fall below the 10 skaters rule.

According to rule 5.1, "not more that 18 skaters and 2 goalkeepers shall be permitted".

This leads me to believe that if Mule or Stuart can't come back that we could go with a short bench with no penalties. In any case, if we were forced to have 18 skaters, we could dress one of the guys and just not play him and the result would be the same as a short bench.

My concern is winning the game without Dats and Nick, although I support their decision for R&R to recover.

ETA: Thanks Konnan511. I see we posted together. Could you tell me where you found that rule? I had looked for it and couldn't find it. It is, of course, a much bigger book than I usually read :D Thanks in advance.

It's something I heard about a long time ago (5/6 years ago?) and I am assuming it is still in effect today. I would be willing to bet my reputation that it is still the same rule that you need 10 skaters and two goalies dressed to start a game which is why a while ago this season one team had to sign their trainer or whatever for the day to suit up for goalie because their goalies were injured or whatever.

I've never heard this 10 players rule before, but I've also never actually looked at the official rules. I was under the impression you need at least 18 or so dressed?

I know in college hockey it is the same because the team I am assistant coach for we have been short benched due to acedemics and have played games with only 13 skaters and 2 goalies with one of our skaters being the 3rd string goalie haha.

I did a quick check and the cheapest GR guys are:

F- Randall Gelech $2,607/day

F-Darren Haydar, Jamie Tardif $2,807/day

F-Ryan Ouhalen $2,809/day

D- Siarhei Kolasau $2,836/day.

I have no idea what these guys' waiver status is.

If needed, can we afford 2 of them? If Mule and Stuart both aren't back, we may need to.

Needless to say, I'd rather have Ericcson, Leino, Helm and Downey as prime consideration. It's a question of money.

I also don't know if any of these guys are injured (I heard Helm is, but I don't know for sure), so that may blow it as well.

I'm sure Kenny has it all figured out, or he'd be on the phone with Lids and Dats.

I do hope you're right. One of the many links posted today (sorry, can't remember which one) indicated that Holland was not sure about Franzen. He said that Mule wasn't skating and may not be back, but he did say that we have some money to use if that's the case.

The Wings do have plenty of money available to play some GR guys for one game, if need be. Holland has been conserving as much cap space as he can... it just sucks to use it for this BS. Thank god this game is against Columbus, where the Wings actually still have a chance, even without their top two guys.
