Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 2 things WHY call up downey if he's not gonna fight, he could have fought a few times this game, easily KRONWALL aboslutely brutal, you can't get any more worse than this.... WAKE UP, are you not better than this?!?!?! K, sorry mindfly but I knew this was coming and I'm about to go. Downey isnt gonna put this team down a man, he wont do it. He wont go grab Ott and rag doll him, Babcock doesnt want that. In a tight game, him going out and banging everything in sight got the Wings pumped, did you not notice the increase in nastiness and physical play tonight? He tried grabbing Barch and the linesman jumped in, who else does Dallas even have for him to go with exactly? NO ONE. There's nothing he can do, if Barch isnt going, Downeys got no dance partner. If you think he didnt have a positive influence tonight, your nuts. He gave the Wings some balls for a while tonight, and he barely got 6 minutes of friggin ice. /done. MTU_Huskies963 398 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 This just in Bettman arranges Dan O' Halloran to ref every wings game for the rest of the season.
Statts 4 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 I really want to know what the justification is for that sort of ice time...because I can't thing of a SINGLE reason when you are in DESPERATE need of offense that you'd be icing the two most sorry excuses for offensive players on the entire league - and candidates for the entire NHL - over a guy that has 39 points on the year playing less than 14 minutes a night in a 3rd line role. I'm dumfounded. Tonight, maybe, just MAYBE may be one of those rare nights were an LGWer could've done a better coaching job than Babs. :Looks at fingers: nope no Stanley cup rings on mine
Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 I'm just gonna blame O'Halloran so I can feel somewhat better about this.

stuck in socal 56 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 I think that loss to the Sharks has really taken its toll on the wings.. Loss of confidence or something...
Zion 93 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 Good to know Steve Ott can continue to run our guys, dominate in our zone and even score on us. Turco was due for a win at the Joe, but he didn't have to work hard tonight. Ott and some bad breaks won the game for Dallas, who wins the season series 3-1. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 (edited) The jobbing from O'Halloran I'm sure has left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. But the fact is the Wings dug themselves a massive hole in the first, and better to come out and at least play a little competitively than risk things like an unprofessional referee killing your chances. Suspect defense and PKing (and yes, the whipping boy did not have a good outing), shaky goaltending, and utter game mismanagement by Mike at the end make this loss. EDIT: I'll say though, those five minutes of the second (up until said jobbing) was the best hockey I've seen all season. Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 I think that loss to the Sharks has really taken its toll on the wings.. Loss of confidence or something... We hit a slump last season too and pulled out of it. Better to get in a slump now than in the playoffs.
Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 Look, even if that goal had been allowed, we'd still need to score 2 more to not force an OT. The Wings started the 3rd with ZERO energy, no drive, and no purpose. They were basically skating around to the music in their own heads. The Wings lost this game for themselves. Had we not gotten down 3-0 in the first (and 4-0 at the beginning of the 2nd), we would of had a chance to win it. Just one of those s*** games that seems to happen more than we all want this season. I'm convinced that, for the time being, we should start Conklin more for the rest of the season. Every point counts from here on out, so just making it to OT in a lot of games will certainly help us come playoff time. Oh, and to reiterate what many else have said about this game: f*** O'Hallaran.

Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 We hit a slump last season too and pulled out of it. Better to get in a slump now than in the playoffs. I was waiting for that. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 :Looks at fingers: nope no Stanley cup rings on mine And if Babs coached the way he coached tonight, there wouldn't be an NHL coaching contract with his name on it. He might as well have put Niklas Kronwall out on the PK more than he put our PK specialist Lilja out on the PK. Oh wait, he did that too. Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 Did anyone notice that Brett Lebda was pretty good tonight? Yeah, he wasn't half bad. But you know what really pisses me off....Lilja scores a goal and I don't a chance to truly celebrate it. Wings just got too far behind, got bent over a little, and the Stars played well. Sgt. Angry 23 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 Pisses me off that in the final minute, Dats had an excellent opportunity to put Ott in the hospital, and just gave him a piss-poor body check into the boards. Last years losing streak was because of injuries. This year it's just that half the team is just plain incompetent. They seem to play in just a ho-hum manner. I'd just like to have seen O'Halloran pull his referreeing bulls*** with Jack Adams, Ted Lindsay, and the crowd at Olympia. He would have gotten beat to a pulp, like he deserves. Not calling you out, Ms_Hockey, you speak the truth, we've been here before. I don't know what you mean by that, but the phrase itself is illogical. Just because you have one slump doesn't mean you're immune to another in the same season. Its not chicken pox or something.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 Did anyone notice that Brett Lebda was pretty good tonight? Yeah I noticed that too. He played it very safe tonight in the D zone and used his speed at the right time. Good performance out of him.
