Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 Datsyuk, Homer, and Downey showed up. Most of the rest of the team took the night off. Simple as that.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 Yeah I noticed that too. He played it very safe tonight in the D zone and used his speed at the right time. Good performance out of him. He has the occasional game where he is seemingly capable of being a #4 Dman. It evaporates just as quickly as it materializes.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 Pisses me off that in the final minute, Dats had an excellent opportunity to put Ott in the hospital, and just gave him a piss-poor body check into the boards. Last years losing streak was because of injuries. This year it's just that half the team is just plain incompetent. They seem to play in just a ho-hum manner. I'd just like to have seen O'Halloran pull his referreeing bulls*** with Jack Adams, Ted Lindsay, and the crowd at Olympia. He would have gotten beat to a pulp, like he deserves. No, he would've gotten shot. Oh wait..

Statts 4 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 And if Babs coached the way he coached tonight, there wouldn't be an NHL coaching contract with his name on it. He might as well have put Niklas Kronwall out on the PK more than he put our PK specialist Lilja out on the PK. Oh wait, he did that too. Kronwall: 2:54 SHTOI Lilja: 2:47 SHTOI thats a whole 7 seconds, the game was not lost in that 7 seconds...relax
Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 I was waiting for that. The bored isn't in complete panic mode until someone uses that phrase. Not calling you out, Ms_Hockey, you speak the truth, we've been here before. If there's any team that can come back from a losing streak and turn it into a winning streak, it's the Red Wings. If any team gives us an inch - we run with it. If they want to panic, let them panic. I won't until April.
LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 (edited) ...no big deal Dallas. Law of avrages says Turdco was gonna win at the Joe eventually! The no-goal rally sucked, it took the momentum away from as again (much like last year against Anaheim.) Dallas wins series 3-1, bit they are still fighting for their playoff lives. Detroit is going to the playoffs no matter what. Maybe since they aren't really feeling the heat from Dallas and don't really care where they end up 1st or 2nd seed, take it easy, don't risk injury. Let Dallas think they got our number, much like last season when the play VERY well against us in the regular season then show them who the real ***** is IF they make it to us in the playoffs AGAIN! ...time to cruise into the playoffs... Enjoy this regular season win Dallas, just remember how many times you've beaten us in the playoffs.... Uh..... ZERO? ...on a small sidenote concerning the physical play, I would much rather see Downey, Abdelkader and Helm out there than Kopecky and Maltby TRYING to be physical... ...He Babcock, maybe Kronner is injured (hint hint) put HIM on the LTIR as well and bring up Ericsson... DYags 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 I'd rather watch the Wings lose like that every night than the way we usually win. What a f*cking joke.
Mike 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 (edited) All around this was just a terrible game. Our top line looked good, but anything past that was pretty blah. I thought Downey brought a lot of energy when he was out on the ice and that hit parade he lead near the end of the 2nd was amazing. I think the Wings should look at starting Downey on a lower line, maybe replace that crap bag Kopecky. The Wings had a shot, but once O'Hallawrong called off the goal the Wings looked flat and then came out for the third dead. Babcock had a real off night too. Idk why he was playing the lower lines so much in the waining minutes of the game and Hudler was barely on the ice. Osgood has gone cold and he needs to warm the bench for a few games. I thought Conks looked pretty solid, despite that embarassing goal. I say let's just forget about it, piss and moan about O'Hallawrong and look forward to a better game against the Caps. I may just be pissed off, but has anyone else noticed Franzen's work ethic like...over the course of the year? Seems pretty spotty to me. Some nights, he doesn't really seem all there. BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 Well despite a lackluster effort, there was some excitement to this game. I forgot what it was like to see our guys really respond to a physical challenge, but they really did tonight. And it certainly got them back in the game, they just fell short. Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 I don't know what you mean by that, but the phrase itself is illogical. Just because you have one slump doesn't mean you're immune to another in the same season. Its not chicken pox or something. Of course it doesn't. Why do you gotta be such a downer? I'm trying to make myself feel better here. It also doesn't mean the season is over.
miller76 463 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 Did anyone notice that Brett Lebda was pretty good tonight? Yeah. You beat me to it. I thought he played really well. He's the one that got it all started in the 2nd with the energy.
skacore 2 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 What a f*cking joke. That was easily the most entertaining game all season long... do you disagree?

Some nights, he doesn't really seem all there. I've noticed it - he started off the season strong but does not seem to be hustling out there. I actually posted I would rather lose Franzen than Hudler a few weeks ago.
Red Crazy 201 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 After 4-0 I was wishing it would go to 7-0, I think this team needs to get blasted to get there s*** together. The Wings have not played well in SIX games now and I hope this performance tonight will snap them outta this funk. I think that it was a poor showing from Ozzie all the way to Babcock. 5 min to go down by 2 and you get a PP and you don't put the big line out??????? WTF Mike? Ever heard of a time out? I guess its just me. Good night.
Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 (edited) That was easily the most entertaining game all season long... do you disagree? The last 6 minutes of the 2nd period were entertaining. The other 54 minutes of the game? Not so much. Edited January 30, 2009 by Electrophile

YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 thats a whole 7 seconds, the game was not lost in that 7 seconds...relax Not its a difference of 7 seconds that Kronwall was AHEAD of Lilja. Its a difference of about two minutes from what it should've been, i.e. Lilja with about 3 minutes on the PK with Kronwall on for 1. In case you haven't noticed, Lilja is FAR AND AWAY our 2nd best PKer. Theres a reason he averages 3:28 on the season to Kronwall's 2:40. When Stuart is out - our #3 Pker - Lilja should only get more time on the PK.
AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 Let's give Dallas a little credit for playing great defensively and putting on the trap / forecheck in the 3rd. The Wings had all the momentum going into the period and they neutralized it. Blame the Wings for not being able to break the trap once they figured out Dallas was going into it. And, for all our supposed "depth", we had a lot of passengers tonight.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 I've noticed it - he started off the season strong but does not seem to be hustling out there. I actually posted I would rather lose Franzen than Hudler a few weeks ago. And I think I agreed with you when you posted that. Hes really selective about when he wants to show up. Some games, he can be entirely ineffective, which says a lot for a guy whos 6'3 and has some speed to go along with it.
elriqo28 2 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 I have to say this is the worst officiated game I have watched in a long time. Just plain awful. The refs need to be held accountable for the way they screwed up this game.
Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 :Looks at your join date: yeah your new same s*** different year get used to it (keep the optimism though) I'm new to the site.. not new to being a fan of the Wings. Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 That was easily the most entertaining game all season long... do you disagree? You're just all tingly in the crotch area because downey had ice time. No, it's far from the most entertaining. I'd think about the Pittsburgh game and obviously the winter classic. DYags 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 That was easily the most entertaining game all season long... do you disagree? Completely. Down 3-0 after 20. Great second period. Disgraceful 3rd with no sign of a comeback. How could I possibly classify that as the most exciting game this season.. I can't.
