Osgood proves he doesn't deserve No. 1 spot

Unfortunately, the Red Wings win and lose as a team. I don't think it's appropriate to blame particular games on one player. Having said that, Oz is not playing at the level that we all know he can play. I agree he should ride the pine for a few games to wake him up, maybe send him down for a couple weeks. I don't think he needs to be traded back to St. Louis for Legace, but something to give his head a shake would not be out of order.

There is always going to be someone wanting to blame a particular player or part of the team for a loss, but threads giving credit to the defense or the tender, or the offense for a win are very few and far between.

By the way, making fun of a person's command of the English language is childish and uncalled for. Grow up, put on your big girl panties, and try to understand the point that the poster is trying to make.

Basically, Osgood is somewhat okay if he's on a Stanley Cup winning team, but if the man is struggling you'll drop him like a sack of potatoes.

If he's ******* up consistently, yes. I'm more than willing to give Ozzie credit when he bails out a s***ty D, but I will even admit now he has stunk, and consistently failed to bail out the D, which is what a goalie does on occasion, not to mention he's been extremely liable to let in easy goals -- gaining rightful criticism.

Nice.

You just be a true fan.

Indeed. It's nice to be a fan of the team over individual players. I'm a fan of doing what is successful and wins games, because I'm a fan of the Red Wings more than Chris Osgood, or Nick Lidstrom, or Henrik Zetterberg. At this point, Conklin has proven to be better for the Wings this season. If he screws up, back to Ozzie. A formula that was successful last season. It's well established by now after a decade that Ozzie usually does better under pressure or with the need to earn a top goalie spot on the roster.

And to the people going on and on about one poster's English, it likely means they don't have a decent argument themselves, or suck at comprehending English just as they accuse the other poster who is perfectly understandable.

So true. Where were you last season, Kevvie?

I agree on the language police item, too. Not all of our members speak English as a first language. And not all of our members who do are any more comprehensible, sometimes. ;)

I will re-stress. These things eventually sort themselves out. There wasn't much of a "set in stone" starter between Osgood and Hasek last year either at this point, nor towards around the end of the season. Both got same amount of games.

This team is making the playoffs.

There is still plenty of time to tinker around with the goalies well before toward when the end of the season comes around.

Osgood and/or Conklin will still likely have a clunker of a game or two before the season ends as that is a part of an 80+ game season. They also have a good bit of more chances to play around the top of their game.

This stuff eventually sorts itself out like last year, but it is probably going to happen later rather than sooner.

This team is still making the playoffs in spite of this. No need to fret too much about this yet then.

Yeupp. Wasn't it in 2002 that the Wings pretty much sucked going into the playoffs? Hasek was not playing well; the team was not playing as a team, etc., etc., etc.

Meanwhile, instead of watching any of the All-Star crap, I replayed all the Wings' Championship DVD's from the four-disc set. Over and over, the players on those teams emphasized Team Play, using phrases like "we came together as a team", or "it was because we played as a team".

This has always and forever been the heart of the Wings' stellar play. Even when they had all those stars on the 2002 team, you could see their comraderie and chemistry on the ice.

Until they reach that point again this season, they will not succeed. So we can sit here and blame one individual, but the Wings know better. Thank God.

I was here, reading, not posting. Reading pretty much the same things that are posted now. Just insert different names sometimes. It's a great place to read and participate in discussions.

Bench Osgood for a few games and let Ty Conklin do the job.

As for bashing those whose English skills may not be perfect, I've seen some people who profess to speak and write English, and have worse skills than the person they are bashing. Maybe it's because I grew up in a time where being able to write and spell were emphasized, but those who don't have the skills themselves have no business bashing another person who doesn't naturally write or speak the language. Give them credit for trying to express themselves.

Thanks

How many Red Wings fans are in or from Europe?!

The English language weeps for the pain you've inflicted upon it.

Every mirror in your house weeps for the pain you've inflicted upon it....making fun of a guy's english......that must make you feel pretty good about yourself !!

I'm a big, big fan of Ozzie...but I'm forced to agree.

Pulling him in the last game was Babcock sending a message. Making him ride the pine for a bit will also send a message. Ozzie's not stupid, he knows he hasn't been playing well. Work on his conditioning. Work with the goaltending coach. Practice hard. And in the meantime, see what Conks can do to pull us out of this tailspin, starting today against the Caps.
