I also think that Nick Lidström has some real problems with his elbow and is probably why he hasn't been as excellent as last year :( Get surgery in the offseason!

Lidstrom has definitely not looked like Lidstrom this year. Elbow, visor, whatever it is- it better get fixed fast...

The Wings actually looked good for the first two periods or so today... they shut the Caps down very well until the meltdown in the third.

that's the story of the year, isn't it? we've fast become a one period (sometimes two period) team. often it's a half a period or ten minute team. i can count the games this season on one hand were the wings have skated a full 60 minutes.

This situation, to me is where we see just how good our coaches are. Returning a championship team to form the next year is the ultimate coaching challenge.

A retarded turtle.

Just once, ONCE, can we get a big stop from our goaltenders?

Pretty much sucked as a stop, didn't it.

...urp...

Ozzy sucks, it's a forgone conclusion.

One stat that really spoke to me was blocked shots in the first 2 periods, something like 3 Detroit, 18 Washington. The Wings rarely block a shot, and bringing in some younger guys who can take those shots, would be a good idea. BLOCK MORE SHOTS.

UH. Ozzie didn't play today. He's not the one who didn't stop those two stoppable ones...

That part is related to coaching staffs but we just simply cannot make our guys to be motivational as the last season. That's why we have to bench or send down our slumping players to the AHL; which can remind every player that they can be sent down in any time.

Like Kopecky, Draper, Maltby, they are doing nothing this season. 4th checking line's role is sparing the time for the 1,2,3rd liners, and this is the only thing that our 4th liners are doing this season. They have to play physically and not robbed by opponents all on the ice.

The only guy who is playing good pretty much every game as a defense is Lilja. He wants more ice times and capture the important places of this team. Lidstrom is not playing as last season and his prime but we have to know he is 38 right now and he is still one of top 5 defenses in the league.

However, we just cannot trade some guys for new motivation. We know Kronwall was supposed to be impressive this season but he has not been so far. It is very hard to trade him because he still has potential to be better and because of his offensive skill.

Agreed. Except for tonight's pk. At least twice in this game, he made bad plays by not getting the puck out of the zone on the pk, when he had it. This isn't an indictment of Lilja, as by far he's been the most consistent defenseman this year (ugh, did I actually just type that?) but rather of the penalty kill in general, as this seems to be a common thread. Bad clearings, and a failure to clear the slot have been killing the pk. As someone mentioned earlier, they showed the blocked shots in the 3rd period, and it was like 4 to 18 or something crazy like that in favour of Washington. I would be willing to bet all of our blocks were by Lilja. Also, what is with Kronwall, and his lack of ability to keep the puck in the attacking zone? He's been a turnover machine lately.

Can't.

Guys who have been in the league a certain amount of time would have to clear waivers in order to be sent down. Pretty much anyone on the Wings' roster would be claimed by a team looking for a playoff-experienced player, and the Wings would get nothing in return.

How about getting some QUALITY shots on net when you're 6-on-3 for over a minute and trailing by 2 goals???!?!?!?!?!? Holy crap. Every shot was into traffic, I think only one (maybe 2) found its way to Theodore. Instead of quickly moving the puck and getting someone open on the back door, they waited and waited, then forced bad shots from the point. BRUTAL. Looks like they have something to work on in practice this week...

I didn't realize everyone's hero Ovechkin was taking lessons from Corey Perry on how to be a douchebag:

"I tell Conklin, ‘It’s coming, it’s coming—and it’s coming in the third period.’ ” Ovechkin said, dissecting another sparkling individual effort."

That's cool though, you guys just keep on buying those jerseys.

Yeah, I saw him saying something to Conks in the first period.. figured he was trash talking.

I like Ovie, he's fun to watch, but I don't have half the respect for him that I have for guys like Pavel and Hank.

He's just having some fun for christ sakes. Some of you take "trash-talking" way to seriously. Every player does it, all you homers seem to forget that yes, even Hank and Pasha trash-talk.

The Red Wings aren't the 'saints' you make them out to be.

Ovechkin with a hat trick over the Sens today in the Caps' 7-4 victory today. 5 goals for Ovie in the last two games. Not too shabby. Honestly, there's nothing embarrassing about losing to this Caps team. If we lose to the Blues tomorrow, then we can press the big red button.

Actually I played hockey for 15 years, but that has nothing to do with me not worshipping Ovechkin and the flavor of the month Caps. I've lived in MD for 20 years and I've had to take nothing but s*** from scummy DC fans the entire time. I've been to every Wings vs. Caps game in DC since 95, including the 98 series sweep and it's been nothing but ignorance from the majority of their fanbase, much less the new bandwagon fans he's brought in. Just yesterday I had people outside the stadium calling me a ****** for wearing my Shanny jersey 5 minutes after I parked my car. I've been to games in Boston, Nashville, Dallas, Minnesota and COLORADO and never had people act like such trash. You'll have to excuse me if I don't give a f*** about Ovechkin and the Caps.
