Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted February 1, 2009 Neil available for draft pick TheFourthPeriod.com According to the Ottawa Sun, the Senators are likely to trade tough right wing Chris Neil before the trade deadline. With a number of teams searching for added toughness, the Sun suggests Neil could become a valuable commodity for Senators GM Bryan Murray. The Edmonton Oilers, Phoenix Coyotes, San Jose Sharks, Anaheim Ducks and Boston Bruins are all believed to be looking for extra punch to their lineup. The Sun claims Neil could be available for a second-round draft pick. From the Editor: I'd expect Neil to be one of the many players the Senators trade this year, along with Filip Kuba and Antoine Vermette. There's also talk that the Sens might move veteran defenseman Jason Smith. -- David Pagnotta. http://thefourthperiod.com/news/ott090201.html Get it done Kenny!!! skacore 2 Report post Posted February 1, 2009 He really is the perfect fit. We have pretty much all other holes filled with prospects and current players, except someone who can deliver huge hits on the fore check and stand up to anyone in the league. Low cap hit? check Contribute offensively? check Bring energy? check Young, coming into his prime? check if a replacement for the McCarty of old exists, it's Neil
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted February 1, 2009 I would be thrilled with Neil, but I can't see it happening. The Red Wings fourth line really needs an upgrade in energy. I would love to see a line in the playoffs of something like Abdelkader, Helm and Neil. I am pretty sure YoungGuns will appreciate this rumor.
NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted February 2, 2009 I for one would certainly love to see Neil in a Red Wings uniform. I don't think we can afford to have a one-dimensional enforcer (à la Boogaard) in the line-up, but Neil is a great energy player. In the game against Dallas, even though we lost, I thought we outmatched them physically. Downey's presence may have had something to do with that, but I think that Neil would be better than Downey, for the reasons you say - he has some (albeit limited) offensive upside, he can hit and skate, and isn't a bad fighter. Downey, as much as I love the guy, doesn't meet these criteria (nor does McCarty for that matter). I think he would certainly fit in on our fourth line. Does anyone know if he plays on Ottawa's PK? In my mind, some defensive abilities would be a clincher, because apart from experience, that is the only area where, say, Maltby would have an edge.
Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted February 2, 2009 I like Neil, but we don't need new players so much as we need half of our current ones to wake the @#$% up.
uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted February 2, 2009 I like Neil, but we don't need new players so much as we need half of our current ones to wake the @#$% up. In the case of our 4th line its not that theyre asleep...just 2 of them have been slowly dying for years and one of them has been awake all along and is just s***. Problem is, the Wings org isn't going to ditch 2 of them because they wouldn't be the loyal Wings org if they did, and the other is housing one of our first liners. skacore 2 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 If we don't pick up Chris Neil then I never want to hear Ken Holland say in an interview that he'd "like to get players who can play, hit, and fight, but those players just aren't available" again. 29, can play, hit, fight, score, energy, cheap, right-handed, proven in the NHL. TheUkrainian 49 Report post Posted February 15, 2009 Ah, those rare right handers...and fighters. I wouldn't mind having him, even if it mean rotating him in and out with another player.

Ontario Wingsfan 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2009 From todays Ottawa Sun The Senators and potential unrestricted free-agent RW Chris Neil aren't even in the same ballpark on a new contract. Discussions have gone nowhere. The belief is Neil's camp wants more than $2 million per season, while the Senators have countered with something close to the $1.5 million that Georges Laraque is making with the Habs. The Sharks and Wings are both interested in Neil. The Senators will likely get a second-round pick in return
Shaman 713 Report post Posted February 22, 2009 I am the last person to agree about an enforcer type player, but with our 3rd and 4th line lacking jump, a new person really cant hurt espeically a new mccarty type player.
Dimaline312000 51 Report post Posted February 22, 2009 I'd like to see Edmonton get Chris Neil. Add Neil to a team that has already got Steve MacIntyre and you've got one tough tough team there. Both players played for my favorite Minor League team here in West Michigan only not the same season(s).
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted February 22, 2009 Frig San Jose, you guys are already tough enough, bring Neil kenny!
Cruiser008 37 Report post Posted February 25, 2009 Neil would be an EXCELLENT pickup.... not to mention if we get him that means SJ doesn't get him.
