Holmstrom tried to skate a little today before practice but said he was in too much pain. He is concerned about the injury. Henrik Zetterberg declared himself ready to play Wednesday. He has missed three games with back spasms. Derek Meech did not practice and remains day-to-day with a sore groin. Darren Helm, recalled from Grand Rapids, joined the team for practice and will play Wednesday, coach Mike Babcock said. He said he hadn't decided which forward would be scratched. He will continue playing Niklas Kronwall with Nicklas Lidstrom. Chris Osgood is starting in goal Wednesday. Babcock said the club also would have recalled defenseman Jonathan Ericsson, but he reaggravated a wrist injury over the weekend with the Griffins. Here's how the lines looked in practice: Leino-Zetterberg-Hossa Hudler-Datsyuk-Franzen Cleary-Filppula-Samuelsson Kopecky-Draper-Maltby (Helm) Lidstrom-Kronwall Lilja-Rafalski Lebda-Chelios Osgood Conklin

Guest mindfly Report post Posted February 3, 2009 (edited) I dunno about these lines...i think datsyuk plays better with hossa, yet in saying that i think pavel can help franzen to score more It's just got to be kopecky who must get scratched... take him off the roster ASAP Edited February 3, 2009 by mindfly
Lidstromrules16 7 Report post Posted February 3, 2009 I think Pavs and Huds will work good together. They are the two best playmakers/passers on the wings.

Kronner doesn't need a rest, he needs to start playing.. he's been coasting all season.. I'd like to see Ericsson also. He's playing, Just still banged up. Shocked to see him not called up yet. Zeta Power 40 1 Report post Posted February 3, 2009 good to see Mr. Zetterberg back and that top line should be very interesting
Chunkylover 26 Report post Posted February 3, 2009 The only problem I see with the second line is that Hudler will defer to Datsyuk and Pavel will try to set up Franzen. Hopefully Franzen can keep the puck on the net. He's come down with a terrible case of Samuelssonitis of the wrist shot of late.
96warrior 11 Report post Posted February 3, 2009 From the Free Press: Tomas Holmstrom hasn’t played since Thursday, when a groin injury flared up beyond what Holmstrom could endure. Holmstrom didn’t sound very optimistic speaking about his injury today. He had an MRI exam but said it’s being sent to a specialist in Philadelphia. Local doctors, Holmstrom said, “couldn’t find anything, but they couldn’t find it last time, either, when I was sore. So we’re sending it to a specialist. So we’ll see tomorrow.” Holmstrom said the problems began a week ago. “Something happened in the Columbus game, and I was really sore the next day, and then I pulled it (in the) last 10 minutes in the Dallas game, too,” he said. “Since then, it’s been really sore. There is something there for sure. I tried to skate yesterday, and it was just getting sorer and sorer the longer I skated.” Asked whether it was similar to what he had late last season (after which he ended up having surgery for a sports hernia), Holmstrom said, “Yeah, it’s in the same area, but on the other side. We don’t know yet what it is. I’m really concerned. It’s getting closer and closer, and I don’t know what to do. Playoffs is not that far away, either, so we have to figure something out, what to do. It feels awfully close like last time, same kind of pain when I’m skating.” Holmstrom played through pain in last spring's playoffs but said, “I don’t want to do that again. That was no fun. I took injections, and you can’t start taking injections now -- it’s February. You can’t take injections the rest of the season.” I asked coach Mike Babcock for his thoughts, and he sounded far more optimistic about Holmstrom. “Tommy sat down in my office at the start of the year and thought he wasn’t going to be able to play this year because his knee was so bad, and then he played in Game 1,” Babcock said. “So he’ll be back, and he’ll be playing.”
FunkedUp 29 Report post Posted February 3, 2009 I want Zetterberg and Datsyuk together....oh well, probably will have to wait for the playoffs for that one.
RedWingedKitten 9 Report post Posted February 3, 2009 I want Zetterberg and Datsyuk together....oh well, probably will have to wait for the playoffs for that one. I like the idea. We should at least test that line before the playoffs. Well, we know Zetterberg and Datsyuk will work, I just want to see how the second line goes... what if it's dynamite? Zetterberg Datsyuk Holmstrom Hudler Franzen Hossa Plus we get the best shut down line back in Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Perhaps our defense improves?

RedWingedKitten 9 Report post Posted February 3, 2009 Don't worry too much fellas. If Kopecky doesn't drastically improve and he's still playing come playoff time, hell will have frozen over. Babcock knows what players like Helm and Leino bring.
ShanahanMan 473 Report post Posted February 3, 2009 I'm thinking when Homer comes back, Kopecky will be put on waivers. No way we'll send down Leino at this point.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 It cant be Maltby and Draper after last game, that's the best they've played all year. Good to see that Helm will get a shot. Sucks about Homer, but he's a battler, he'll be back.
lets go pavel 2 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 I'm thinking when Homer comes back, Kopecky will be put on waivers. No way we'll send down Leino at this point. It's a nice idea, but I won't hold my breath. Also unless I'm mistaken, it's a matter of when Stuart comes back, not Homer ...
Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 Sorry to hear about Homer. I'm glad Hank is back in the mix - maybe he'll help out our PK. Also, I'm excited to see Helm play again.
