Hank 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 (edited) Sometimes I really hate TSN. They're such homers for the Eastern Conference it's not even funny. The Oilers spanked them the other night and TSN runs the headline "Oilers relentless in pounding of road weary Canadiens". It was only the SECOND game of a 6 game road trip? What the hell? Are they that tired from just flying outside the Eastern time zone? Those Eastern teams are babies. Philadelphia had a long western road trip a month ago and by the time they hit San Jose, they were griping and whining about all the travel. Last year, New Jersey's players spent a total of 6 days away from their homes during the whole season. That's a joke. I bet if you put any team from the West into the East for a season they would finish in the top 4 easy. Even teams like LA, St.Louis would kill most teams over there. In the West, every team is a playoff team. In the East you have punching bags like the Islanders, Leafs, Thrashers, Lightning and Senators. Can you imagine if those 5 teams were in the West? They'd have 10 wins between all of them after 82 games. And teams like the Oilers, Coyotes, Predators or even the Blue Jackets would have over 100 points from feasting on those bums. If the East wins the Cup this year it will be only because the West is so strong, the team that emerges from that conference is too beaten up and road weary to take out the Eastern champ. Guest mindfly Report post Posted February 12, 2009 TSN is pro Toronto Maple Leafs, and slightly after them comes the canadiens, and the rest of the canadian teams are about the same. Just check out how many videoclips there are of leafs, like 5 different clips about the possibility of antropov getting traded... for an example..
ben_usmc 253 Report post Posted February 12, 2009 I've been saying that about the east all season. Mark my words if Malkin/Ovie/Malkin were in the west Datsyuk would be the point leader by at least 7. They are great players but have the ability to play horrible teams a lot more then the west. Just check out how many videoclips there are of leafs, like 5 different clips about the possibility of antropov getting traded... for an example.. Yeah, I've grown used to how pro-Leafs they are. But I couldn't help but laugh over that 'road weary' excuse. It was only their 2nd game on the road for crying out loud. If it was their 6th game I can sort of see it. But they got spanked plain and simple. And speaking of the Habs, it looks like Carey Price's playoff collapse was no fluke. This kid goes down far too early and teams are shooting high exposing his weak glove hand. It's a good think Bob Gainey dealt Christobal Huet for a 2nd rounder last year. Struggling Price + Uninterested Kovalev = 1st round exit for Montreal.

mjlegend 155 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 They're catering to their audience. Makes sense to me. And that's the only audience they'll ever have if they don't broaden the base a bit. I find myself watchign Hockey On the Fly final edition more than Sportscentre because I know I'm going to get more than Leafs, Leafs, Leafs, Habs, Toskala, Burke, Antropov, Lefas, Leafs, Habs, Wilson, Price, Gainey, Burke, Koivu, Leafs, Leafs, Leafs, Habs, Price, Crosby, Leafs, Sharks, Cherry, Leafs, 2010, Leafs, "Bryan McCabe back at the ACC", Leafs, Burke, Wilson, Burke, Oilers, Leafs. I'm beginning to wonder if Toronto has any local television affiliates.

They should have hung onto Huet to help him along. The English classic rock station here in Montreal, CHOM 97.7, did a hilarious interpretation of what they thought would have been said inside the Canadiens closed door meeting, have a listen: http://www.chom.com/player/player?mediapat...nid=873858& If that link doesn't work, look on youtube..... they rip on Price real bad. The Secret 304 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 You don't hear the Wings complain about a 5 or 6 game west coast trip. The best part of it, in true Canadiens fashion, they blame travel for the reason they suck on game 2 of a 6 game road trip. Happy 100 years cry babies. Valas19 50 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 Road weary is a lot less inflammatory than saying overrated. That team certainly is not as good as the number of "stars" they had in the "All Star" game.
Wombat 26 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 It'd be nice if the NHL stopped the East/West conference divide and instead spread the travel out for all teams by arranging conferences like the NFL and MLB (leagues) do. Then every team can have the chance to be "road weary" by leaving EST a few more times.
servo 15 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 Everyone needs to understand that their target audience isn't the US and certainly isn't western canada. Take that into consideration and you can understand why they broadcast the way they do.
Broken 16 381 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 (edited) Every time I hear of an Eastern Conference team whine about travel... I view it as a direct insult to all Western Conference teams. Seriously... could the league spoon feed that conference any more? On the bright side... I suspect that the insane travel that the Western Conference teams have to endure actually give them an advantage in the playoffs. Adversity makes you stronger. Wether it's adversity through getting your ass handed to you by a better team or adversity through a ridiculous travel schedule. It all helps bring teams together and create chemistry. That's the way I see it, anyway. Edited February 13, 2009 by Broken

Take that into consideration and you can understand why they broadcast the way they do. To call a team road-weary when it's two games into a swing is just plain stupid, regardless of the team, regardless of existing biases.

miller76 463 Report post Posted February 14, 2009 The problem with this team is that all of it's hopes are on Price. A young guy with the weight of the world on his shoulders, with the over bearing fans and media. The other issue is their leaders are M.I.A. Kovalev and Koivu are not leading or producing. And one of the biggest things that I actually find a little amusing, is this team has fallen on it's face since Robert Lang went down. He was their work horse, goal scorer, and energy guy. Who would have thunk it?

Pavel Hossyukstrom 2 Report post Posted February 15, 2009 (edited) I agree TSN is a joke. I'm surprised they don't have the Leafs And Canadiens ahead of the Wings in their power rankings. We're still behind the Blackhawks this week??????? They haven't been winning too much as of late and of course aren't as deep as the Wings but they're ahead? We should be at least 3rd or even 2nd since the Sharks have been tanking as of late. http://www.tsn.ca/fantasy_news/feature/?fid=548 Edited February 15, 2009 by Pavel Hossyukstrom
