Doggy 130 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 (edited) My favourite non-Detroit NHL player, Mike Richards scored his 3rd SHG whilst being down 2 men on Sunday. He's the first NHL player in history to do this and he's only 24. Scoring one SHG when down 5 on 3 is difficult enough to fathom, but for one player to do it three times?? Simply amazing. name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>&"> name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350" /> Edited February 20, 2009 by Doggy
SweWings 45 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 I'll be honest, I didn't really notice the guy until last years playoffs but since then he's been one of my absolute favorite players. Sweet player...
MotorCityMadness 388 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 No doubt that Richards is a very good player, but if I were the coach of the Rangers I would have had an absolute fit after that happened. I mean how do you just let a guy split the seem like that and go in untouched?
stormboy 47 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 wow, he made that look really easy.... i haven't watched him much, but that dude's got some great speed. he had five points tonight against buffalo, and another shortie (though this one was the boring, 5-on-4 kind )
Guest NumbaSixty-Six Report post Posted February 20, 2009 I am a Penguin fan, and I even respect Mike Richards as the great player/leader he is. He reminds me of a Dale Hawerchuk. Dale was such a awesome player but no body gave him any credit because of Gretzky and Mario tearing it up. Sorta like Malkin and Ovechkin.
Nev 1,085 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Richards is a hell of a player and the Flyers are lucky to have him. He's never going to be an elite top-tier player in the mould of an Ovechkin, but with that long contract he has, he will probly become to Philly what Linden was to Vancouver - the heart and soul of the team for a looong time. Three 3on5 goals? Thats just insane. Doing it on the Xbox is one thing, but in the real NHL
Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 One of my favourites, he's an insanely good player. That is one heck of an achievement.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 I like Richards, and he should probably have his name on our cup with the way he did us a great service by scrambling Malkin's brains in the playoffs, but that was a lame 5 on 3 from the Rags. Richards wasn't even breaking out that fast, and the Rags were doggin' it. Who were the two Rags on the point? Pretty pathetic. But with that said, we all know what would've happened if Drapes had had a chance like that.

C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Richards is a hell of a player and the Flyers are lucky to have him. He's never going to be an elite top-tier player in the mould of an Ovechkin, but with that long contract he has, he will probly become to Philly what Linden was to Vancouver - the heart and soul of the team for a looong time. With all due respect to Linden, I think Richards will end up a few clicks above that. He'll never have the stats/awards/accolades of an Ovechkin like you say, but IMO he has just as much ability to elevate his team as AO does, and at the end of the day, that's what it's about. I'll admit that I openly questioned his contract and the captaincy. But I'll also admit that I was dead wrong on both. What a tremedous player.
C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 But with that said, we all know what would've happened if Drapes had had a chance like that. Yeah, he'd hit the net. The one above the glass. Well, ok, that's pretty extreme, but he'd be about halfway between the two for sure.

Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Wow, that was right brutal coverage and pursuit by the Rangers. I can't even begin to imagine how that's possible. By that same token, you can't argue with three 2 man disadvantage goals.
h2obury 6 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 I was watching that game it was sick it looked like the Rangers had just given up but kudos to Richards on that goal it was sweet :wow:
C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 Yeah, he'd hit the net. The one above the glass. Well, ok, that's pretty extreme, but he'd be about halfway between the two for sure. Just wanted to jump back in to issue a quick retraction on this gem, in light of Draper's goal tonight.

Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 Got another shorty from Richards just now. That guy has a killer instinct when the play is going D to D on the power play.
titanium2 867 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 Got another shorty from Richards just now. That guy has a killer instinct when the play is going D to D on the power play. I saw that. It was awesome, especially after Crosby embellished that trip. Karma works sometimes.
