Hoookaay....I'm personally just gonna take a deep breath here and remember how I entered immediately into a state of grace when I became a Red Wings' fan and be grateful that I am not Holland, Babcock or Ilitch. :noevil:

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 What the hell? Why are they sending him down? Ozzie needs this time to recover more than the Griffs need Howard. Howard should've stayed up as a backup to Conklin. They had an opportunity to get Ozzie back on track and they might have lost that chance.
Chase 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 But wasn't that the plan all along? J.Ho back to GR after one game? That's what Ken and Mick said that night. Yeah Ken and Mick did say that was plan. Plays one game then send him back down, and Conklin will play on Wednesday.
union drone 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 But wasn't that the plan all along? J.Ho back to GR after one game? That's what Ken and Mick said that night. I was only able to get the Minnesota feed for the game, so I have no idea what Ken and Mick might have said. From the reports online and from people here, I got the impression that we would see a Conklin/Howard lineup (with Howard playing at least a game) for a total of ten days while Osgood gets a reprieve to work on his issues. Instead Howard is in town all of three days, backs up on Friday, starts on Saturday, and gets sent down on Sunday.

They had announced it before J. Ho had even come up.

P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 Griffins had three games in three days last weekend, so the plan was that Howard would be sent back to play the last one. The 10 days thing was that Osgood won't start a game during that span. Does anyone know who was backing up Larsson while Howard was up with Red Wings? HenrikRules40 14 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 I'll take your word for it. It does make me feel a bit better knowing that this was the gameplan all along. Yeah I can understand that. Initially I had the impression that Howard was going to stay for ten days while Ozzie re-focused. Until I heard Ken say that Howard was slated to go back to Grand Rapids after the Minnesota game, I figured he'd be around for a while. If he hadn't been scheduled to go back down, this would have made me panic for sure.
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 I think they meant 10 days between starts for Osgood which makes more sense given the breaks in the schedule and all. It also makes it a lot less dramatic than some have made it out to be as well. I still believe Osgood will find a way to turn this around. I think he'll have to battle a lot harder than last year for fewer results, but I think he'll find a way.

If he does continue to struggle, however, I have a good measure of faith in Conklin. He might not have experience as a playoff starter, but he has been up to the task thus far. All this talk of Ozzie "fanboys" and Ozzie "haters" kind of irks me at times. There wasn't a person here who wasn't pulling for him last spring. I have always liked his attitude and perseverance, but I am also totally realistic about his abilities. I think that we need a healthy dose of realism around here sometimes. DMAC 25 18 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 ok.....what happened to the ten days off? how long was he out for? i'm sorry but its gonna take more than just a few days to re-focus
russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 I think that these days were good to Ozzie and he is going to pull a Kovalev and come back something fierce... Glad COnks is against San Jose though, it will be an easier game for Ozzie to play LA then San Jose as his first game back.

The issue is bad reporting tactics used to sensationalize something that's a little deal, but not quite as big of a deal...

They were giving Ozzie 10 days without starting and having him not dress for the two weekend games (so that he didn't have to worry to be prepared to play as a backup). From the start it really wasn't like Ozzie got "Kovalev'd" or anything. I sure hope he took it seriously and is on his way to being refocused and ready. If not, I think Conklin can do what's needed. The plan was clear...10 days off for Ozzie, 1 start for Howard. That's done, and Howard didn't do anything whatsoever to convince Red Wings management that he deserves to stay up. Allowing 4 goals on 28 shots is no better than Ozzie has done this year, and of those 4 goals, 3 were brutally soft. Back to the AHL, Jimmy. Enjoy yourself...maybe next year. I live in Minnesota and know how the Wild play. That game was one of the best games the Wild have played all year, and it's not Howard's fault. Jimmy certainly didn't do much to make himself look good, but the defense in the first two periods of that game was atrocious. Yes, the Wings did do their patented "kick" in the 3rd period, but you also have to understand that Lemaire's Wild teams will always do a turtle duck in the 3rd (with the lead) and allow themselves to get outshot with perimeter chances. And like the guy above me said: Not like Osgood hasn't had games much, much worse than that this year!

Yes, the Wild played very well, but Jimmy Howard wasn't particularly good, at all. The first 2 Owen Nolan goals were soft, and there was one other soft goal (can't remember who scored it)...I appreciate your opinion, and agree that the Wild earned the victory, but Howard did nothing to earn himself a longer stay in Detroit. You get one chance, and when you get that chance, you can't go out and allow 4 goals on 28 shots.
