SetecX 139 Report post Posted February 24, 2009 Sharks have faced 0 adversity this year. Let's see how that plays out 2 months from now.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted February 24, 2009 I get the feeling that people on LGW are terrified of the Sharks, since each time they play a game, we have to start a different thread about it. I know they're ahead of us in the standings, but I still think they're getting way too much attention around here.

I started this thread lastnight from pure boredom of there only being ONE game in the league going on. Figuired people were watching and may want to talk about it. God forbid we talk about hockey in a hockey forum! What is the world coming to?

God forbid we talk about hockey in a hockey forum! What is the world coming to? I was actually thinking of starting this topic, myself, since as you said, it was the only game on yesterday so I figure a good deal of people would be watching it (bonus points since it's the Sharks and their standing has the most effect on our team's). Turns out I was too busy to watch it. Oh well. Edited February 24, 2009 by Shoreline
Wombat 26 Report post Posted February 24, 2009 Seemed like a nice, defensive game last night. I think I'm in the minority here, but I want the Sharks to finish 1st in the West this year. I'd rather they take on some of the "favorite" pressure. Trying to repeat is tough enough without having other weights on you. Let the Sharks see if they can go wire to wire. softshoes 83 Report post Posted February 24, 2009 I'm scared as s***. What's the problem? I'm with ya pal. I watched the game and both goalies scared the s*** outta me. I'm not sure how many 1-0 games we would come out on top of in the playoffs.
MaynardJKeenan 1 Report post Posted February 24, 2009 As good as both teams are I don't see us meeting in the WCF. I think one of us will get beat by a lower seed in the 1st or 2nd round. Hopefully it will be the Sharks that fall in the 2nd round like usual, lol. I'm not afraid to play the Sharks, but the travel is a *****. Chigago, Columbus and Minnesota sound alot better to me. I'm not sure how many 1-0 games we would come out on top of in the playoffs. At the moment? One, maybe none. Turco played really well. No shame on him for that loss. Nabby was good too, Dallas was not giving up, despite missing four or five key players. The poster above who said SJ has faced no adversity this season is dead on, by the way. Let's see how they do, should they have the misfortune of key injuries down the stretch. Not wishing that on any player, believe, but just saying it's a factor. We have had several key players gone for large chunks of the season, Mitchell (entire season) and JR (just back) being the most prominent. Both Boyle and Luko have spent a fair amount of time on IR as well as Cheechoo who is only now getting back to form. Now Goc is down (3rd line ctr with 87% faceoff wins). While not top line players this has had a pretty dramatic effect on the team play, as we have effectively run 3 patchwork lines vs our typical 4. The biggest impact has been on D, which showed up over the last month or so. Not making excuses as none are necessary, but try to keep it real if you are going to express your opinion. Looking forward to Wednesday. This game might be the most important game of the season for both teams. Wings will want to remind the Sharks who they have to go through to get to the cup. The Sharks will want to demonstrate to the Wings that they are the real deal. I expect a lot of energy and physical play. Both teams recognize the importance of the final regular season matchup and will want to send that message. I'm pumped!!!! JMTC You equate losing JR and Mitchell from your team with Dallas season-long loss of Zubov and their Captain and heart, Morrow, amongst others? Ok, you're a fan of your own team. I get why you don't see the difference.

Ok, you're a fan of your own team. I get why you don't see the difference. Please point out where I equate losing JR and Mitchell to the loss of Zubov and Morrow. I responded (appropriately) to the comment that SJ has not faced any adversity this year due to injuries of key players which is far from true. SJ is a fairly emotionless team with the exception of JR, Mitchell and Clowe. JR's loss was far more significant then his on ice performance, the guy is probably the real "A" on this team. Adversity: "A state of hardship or affliction; misfortune. A calamitous event." You say yourself that the players missing from the lineup in SJ are not top line players. Zubov and Morrow certainly qualify as that. It's all relative, but you don't need to pop in here to tell us that we're wrong for stating what we believe is true. I get what you're saying, and generally agree with you. Don't let your stay here be ruined if people give you a hard time. Its a lot of fun to talk crap in the playoffs when it really matters, so you need to stick around at least until then.

DuckSoup13 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2009 I caught the game and it certainly had a "Playoff" feel to it. Low scoring, great goaltending on both ends, and few mistakes. Nabakov played out of his mind.

I spend more time on other teams boards then my own, simply because I find it far more entertaining. The SJ board is the hockey equivilent of a dungeons & dragons forum complete with all the nerds and wackos. Hanging out in someone else's forum is a little like poaching a nice hottub & bbq when you are at an someone elses ski resort. Good fun Oh and f*** Detroit!
