Kenny is saying that it doesn't look like he's going to make any trades, but if he was going to look for someone, he would look for grit and depth.

Neil is out of the picture. Holland already said so. The Avs won't ask for a 2nd for Lappy, and if they do then no deal - its as simple as that. But I would honestly take Lappy over any one of those guys - even Helm. Hes more physical than all of them, and is as good a PKer as Draper is (if not better this year). And then theres the experience factor. If somehow he comes at the price of a 4th rounder or a weak prospect, then I would hope Holland would snap him up.

I've been thinking about that aspect some as well and wondering if since we have so much experience on the team already if it wouldn't be better thinking forward to get some of those guys who don't have much experience but that the Wings will be bringing up in the next few year (and relying on more and more) would benefit from gaining some of that experience.

Jokinen to Calgary for Lombardi and a 1st, possibly Aucoin. That's the rumor going right now

Maybe someone can correct me but Lombardi is not enough to clear space for Jokinen.

Good line by Kenny: "Back before July 1st, when we made the decision to re-sign Brad Stuart, and then when we signed Marian Hossa on July 2nd, we knew we were going to be very close up against the cap and not have much flexibility, but we'd do it all over again---it meant we got to have Marian Hossa."

In other words, if we don't pick up anyone at the deadline, that was the price to pay for having Marian Hossa the entire season---and I don't think it could be reasonably argued that this wasn't worth it.

 @ Kenny

1997 doesn't "count." He was the backup.

What is it with people these days? Thats such a bullcrap statement.

In 96-97 he played half the games. He made a major contribution. Yet, I haven't heard any reason why it shouldn't count other than the fact he didn't play playoffs which is such a copout. Point is that it counts.

Burnside (12:25 p.m. ET): Interesting waiver wire moves Wednesday, including the Stars picking up good guy Brendan Morrison, whose career has hit a significant bump the last couple of years. With injuries in Vancouver, and then not really fitting in with Anaheim this season, look for Morrison to get a chance to showcase some decent offensive skills with the injury-plagued Stars.

Morrison was a great player but hasn't been playing well as of late. Still, I think he has great skills and should be able to fit in well with Dallas.

Okay. Let it go. I just think one goalie wins the Cup every year. In 1997 I'm inclined to give it to the Smythe winner. That's just me.

In my eyes, the experience is merely a bonus. What most intrigues me about Laperriere is actually this combination of PKing/energy/physicality. Hes like Drake, except in his prime. I wouldn't be advocating so much for Lappy if he was merely a gritty vet - but hes been putting on a show on the PK this year. Hes kind of a package of exactly what we need - even more so than Neil, and I personally like Neil better.

Lombardi's hit is like 1.5 and Aucoins is 3.5 or something, together they'd be enough.

Indeed. If they trade Aucoin, the Leopold trade makes sense.

Edit: Well forget that lol.

I think that anyone who makes a significant contribution in the regular season or at least some in the playoffs deserved to be rewarded. Should we just start nixing players like McCarty who played only one finals game from the cup because they weren't in every game? Chelios too? Meh.

You are right, just a difference of opinion. I choose to go off of the NHL Record books not the "what I believe to be true but isn't" book.
