Dandenault askes to be traded out of Montreal

Holland says that he will address 'defensove depth' at the deadline. Getting Dandenault back would address that as he can play both up front and on d. Obviously we all know that he has post season experience. I'd welcome him back for the Wings, but what would we have to give up? Probably not much, 3rd rounder should do it. But...realisically, the Wings need physicality.

I agree. IIRC Scotty never cared much for Dandy but I never understood why. He worked hard, played well at both ends.

It's been a long time since he was here and I don't know if he has the same speed and energy, but if he does, he would fit in well.

IMHO, Meech has been terrible (clear the damn puck!). And Lebda has looked very good this second half of the season. I wouldn't want to rely on Meech in the playoffs if someone gets hurt.

No thanks. He doesn't bring something we don't already have. Lebda has speed. It's not like Dandy is a big clear the crease defenseman, and Meech has played at forward. I like the guy but I can't see why they would pick him up, other than that he is available and has been here before. He has been gone for a good while, too.

Dandenault - right handed, faster, 2 years younger, a full MILLION cheaper AND an expiring contract, i.e. RENTAL

Havelid - also a rental, but yet another left handed D, a little smaller than Dandy, no team experience, so you never know about the chemistry...

Who cares about handedness and age from a rental Dman? As for their cap hit, the Wings only have enough space to make one move anyways, so if we're arguing about the two it should be done based on the merits of the player alone.

That said, if the Wings were going to get a depth Dman I'd rather he be a big bruising stay at home kinda guy. Dandy has got good wheels and I can remember a few plays from him that were pretty great**, but he doesn't really fit that bill.

*It was a game against the Preds (might have been in the '04 series) where he ******* reached out from the bench and tried to take some guys head off as he was skating by. It was ridiculous and hilarious and I couldn't believe he got away with it.

**Against Calgary in the '04 semis... Picking up the puck and going end to end, faking a cut to the middle of the slot with a head fake and freezing the Dman, then taking it behind the net to feed Stevie in front for the goal. That was one helluva play.

eh... the only downside there, is that REALLY cripples your 3rd d pairing in speed - I personally just think we should deal Meech or Lebda (I'd rather see Lebda go, but I think we could get more for Meech) and have the 3rd pairing be Lilja-Meech/Lebda (whoever is left) then cycle in Cheli if anyone gets injured/matchups where speed isn't as big of a factor... also keep in mind there is a very good chance that if Ericsson can kick the injury bug that the 3rd pairing will most likely be Ericsson-Lilja through the whole playoffs...

Saying that is like me saying there will be 3 feet of snow in Ohio on the 4th of July. YOu have no way of knowing that and chances are it's not going to happen this year....

He just wants to play.

That's what I liked about him while he was with Detroit. In the 1998 playoffs, he skated with the "Black Aces" and I remember seeing a feature showing what it was like to be ready, just in case you were needed as a replacement. He jokingly said he was hoping that someone would get hurt, because he was supposed to be the first one added to the playing roster. He didn't play in '97, but he got in 3 games in '98 and played in all 23 games in 2002.

Three rings in nine seasons; not too bad.

Great guy, hope he finds a team that will appreciate him a little bit more then the Habs did. But as far as the Red Wings picking him up -- nope.

I loved the guy when he was here as I assume most fans do, but we don't need him. We are not lacking speed on the blueline, we are actually fine in that department, we need size -- and someone who can muscle guys from in front of the net, something we haven't been able to do as well this year as we have in years past.
