Gary Roberts Retires

Recommended Posts

I remember it like yestereday when a young Gary Robert and the Flames defeated the Canadians for the Cup. He was a tough and courageous player who had a near career ending injury and bounced back. Too bad he never was a Wing he always looked good in red. Thanks for some inspired hockey.

That's a shame, I'm pretty pissed that TB didn't buy him out. Pretty s***ty way to treat such a great player, would have loved to see him in a Wing's wheel.

Great career Roberts too bad it had to end like this.

Arent they still owned by Palace Entertainment........? Or did they finally sell the team?

They are in the first year of new management. The new owners thought throwing money at the situation would be the way to go. Plus, they phased out the previous GM out of the decision making and didn't hire a new one until most of the off season decisions had been made. Finally, they hired Melrose as coach. Now, they are trying to fix the issues they created.

What aging player would want to go to Tampa Bay? First Andreychuk, now Roberts? Especially Andreychuk, since he was their captain.

If I were a free agent, I'd go there last.

From the TSN link:

"Roberts' contract worked against him being picked up on waivers. His cap hit was more than $2 million and he has a bonus package that pays him $10,000 for each game he plays."

Maybe that was the best offer he got after leaving Pittsburgh; did he sign for the love of the game or for the love of money? Quite a "Hockey Organization" they've got running things in Tampa Bay. The "Bolts"; who designed that "third jersey"?

Gary Roberts should have retired in 1994.

Spoken like someone who drank their first legal beer less than three years ago (if at all). Show some respect.

I never liked the guy, but loved his game. To see him go out like this is less than a warrior like him deserved. Yet another knock on Tampa's new "management."

It has nothing to do with respect or disrespect.

I don't like the man and he hasn't been a 'warrior' for quite some time now.

Of course, "He should have retired in 1994" is an exaggeration, but I just meant to say he overstayed his welcome in the NHL.

p.s. I am allowed to drink beer for some time now, but I just don't like it. Ironic huh ?
