clayjoh 3 Report post Posted March 7, 2009 Colleen pushed real hard for Gordie in the early days as it was said he was a bit of a pushover in contractual negotiations with the likes of Jack Adams et al She also worked hard to get the "Gordie Howe Franchise" so to speak out in the public eye even after his retirement to keep the pennies rolling in She really was the love of his life ,,, met her at the bowling alley apparently and they raised a terrific family the last several years have been very tough on the family due to her illness God bless Mr Hockey and all his family

whitneydatsyukrox 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2009 So, so sad However she suffered for such a long time and definitely deserved peace. I have an article on Mr. and Mrs. Howe from years ago. It illustrated the fierce love and devotion Gordie had for his wife as her health faded the past few years. It is something all couples, families, everyone could learn from. Amazing people. Rest in peace, Mrs. Hockey!

Kira 451 Report post Posted March 7, 2009 I never had the chance to meet her, but if she was as gracious as Gordie and Mark, whom I have met, she definitely has a place with the angels. My heart goes out to the family.

cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted March 9, 2009 The final labels I can put on Mrs. Howe are “teacher” and “fighter”. She taught me what Pick’s Disease is (which I had never heard of before her diagnosis); it is a rare neurodegenerative disease that puts in a fight that you cannot possibly win. But, in the true Howe fashion, she and her family “kept their elbows up” and fought it as best they could. When friends, family or loved ones go through something as tragic as this, it is always the ones who surround you and are near you than can offer the most comfort. Although I have never met any of the Howe family, I do consider myself to be part of the Detroit hockey family; albeit, only as a fan. So, to the Howe family, I thank you for the lessons learned in this latest chapter of your historic family.
