Brodeur passes Patrick Roy

It was #551. Great respect shown by the fans in Montreal.

Yeah, I realized I'd typed the wrong number as I was hitting "post". For some reason, the edit button isn't working for me.

The one thing they did mention is that Roy has 29 more regulation wins. If there weren't shootouts, it would probably be next season before he'd tied the record.

Yeah, I didn't think of that. Brodeur will smash the record regardless. It's a good thing it isn't going to be close because that fact would really have taken some luster off the accomplishment. 550+ wins is just obscene though.

No kidding! I thought the Montreal crowd showed unbelievable class tonight. They gave him a huge standing ovation. Roy was up in the box, with this weird expression on his face. I know it had to be a bummer to know Marty is fixing to break his record, but at least smile a little!

Cool. Great for Brodeur.

NJ is having a great year. They will give all the Eastern teams a run for their money in the Playoffs.

Congratulation Martin! You well deserved it. The best goalie ever played in the NHL. I am also impressed by fans of the Canadiens and it was really adorable to watch. They were not jeering the great goaltender like the Pens fans.

Incredible guy. When I look him, just reminds me the time when there were three great goaltenders: Brodeur, Hasek, and Roy few years ago. Impressed how this guy is still playing as the best goalteder when both Hasek and Roy are gone now.

Incredible, I do hate the Habs fans, but a very classy move by them tonight!

Not surprising, considering that Brodeur is not only Quebecois, but born and raised in Montreal.

Congrats to Martin. The man is a work-horse....

Congrads to Brodeur, wiping that POS Roy out from any record in the NHL is a spectacular accomplishment in my book even if Sawchuck's SO record is next.

does anyone else think that marty's tying of the record ought to be ... reevaluated? roy never played in the shootout era, whereas brodeur played in games where a victor came out every night.

don't get me wrong, i love marty, but it feels a little inaccurate.

And a few decades ago they didnt play 82games, yet the shooters were less good etc etc you could go on like this forever, you just have to accept that it's accurate

It's also cool that brodeur doesn't really use the prototype butterfly style he combines it with another one he doesn't go down in butterfly stance as fast as others yet he manage to win alot of games

Brodeur bashers are whining http://brodeurisafraud.blogspot.com/2007/0...odeur-here.html
