Chelios' 10 Years with Wings

it is funny to realize, as much as he was hated here in Detroit, he will have played the most here in Detroit! He will go into the Hall with 2 Cups (possiby 3) while playing where he was so hated! He is right, Hockey is Hockey, but for some reason I cannot see that being said for Claude or Patrick if they had played here in their latter days! Thank you Chelios for 10 great years! We'd like to see you become our defensive Asst. Coach, please do not go back to Chicago!!!!

He's won 3 cups, hopefully 4 this year

I know he won 3, but I said he will go to the Hall winning 2 (possibly 3) WITH the team that he absolutely hated and we hated him. 3 outta 4 Cups on a team that he said he would NEVER play for! And if I had a Dollar for everytime I called him a name, I'd be rich. Thats not bad for someone so hated in this town.

It's crazy when you think that, while Cheli is so frequently identified as a "former Blackhawk", he's spent more time with the Wings than he did in Chicago (9 years) or Montreal (7 years).

I was just thinking this.

It's understandable, though. Those were his peak years.

I'd say he's playing for one of 3 teams next year.

Chicago - Probably his first pick, he has stated his desire to return to the windy city. As for chicago's side......

L.A. - His home in Malibu would be close, and L.A. could most likely fit and afford him.

Anaheim - tack another 30 minutes on to the commute (off hours... it's LA). They only have a few unsigned players this year.

I can see him going to LA after this season. They could use a 3rd pair d-man and someone to mentor guys like Doughty, Johnson, and Quincey.

I can see him heading to the Rangers. They have a bunch of UFAs on their blueline and he wants to play for an Original Six team. They could use a veteran like Chelios who would come cheap while providing decent third pairing (or better) play given the number of UFAs and RFAs they have.

Boston as a depth defenseman is also a possibility, although it depends on which free agent defensemen, if any, Boston retains.

Montreal has quite a few UFA defensemen, and Chelios could replace several of them.

I talked to him at the open house, asked him if he had another year in him so he could play in the Olypics and he said no. He did say he would love to go as a coach of the olypic team.

Why should he retire? It's up to him when he wants to retire. Finally there'll be a time when he doesn't get offers anymore (or will there?) and that's mostly the only way to force him.

It would be quite crazy for the Red Wings to offer him another deal though.

I don't think that's what Ducky meant. I think he's saying that someone will literally force a 60 year old Chelios to stop playing hockey in some league somewhere. The man loves the sport so damn much he'll do it until his very life and legacy is threatened. :P

Then he will be playing pick up games at 60
