Rivalred 630 Report post Posted March 27, 2009 Little more food for thought. Hasek started in the playoffs last year, Osgood came in to replace him and won the cup. This year, Ty has a SV% of .921 with a 2.42 GAA in the regular season. Ty has played ONE playoff game, which is considered zero playoff experience. Well, Cam Ward had ZERO playoff experience also since that was his rookie year, and well, he won the cup.

digitaljohn88 4 Report post Posted March 28, 2009 ...but do collective regular season statistics, mostly from October/November/December/January really affect how a goalie plays NOW and into the playoffs? He's been pretty good over 6-7 starts in March. I think we should have no worries going into the playoffs as long as he finishs out his last 5-6 starts strong. Aeothe Kaear 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2009 Ty has played ONE playoff game, which is considered zero playoff experience. Having none at all would be a better argument for Conklin. He wasn't exactly clutch in his one appearance.
Rivalred 630 Report post Posted March 28, 2009 (edited) Having none at all would be a better argument for Conklin. He wasn't exactly clutch in his one appearance. A small sample (1 game - if you want to all it that) is not reliable as posted above. I can also debate about a goalie coming into a game cold. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 lol, have you seen Osgood play this year, the number of horrible goals given up, the lack of confidence, looking confused and lost. He's done, he can't put a consistency streak worth anything together. He plays couple decent games against easy teams, then lets in 3 horrific goals against the flames! He's done! Bring up Jimmy and send Ozzie packing. Conklin has to be our starter going forward for us to succeed. How do you know he is done when the regular season isn't even over yet and there are games left to be played for? Nobody is done before the regular season is over unless they are too injured to play. sureWhyNot 19 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 To compliment Rival's post, Carolina wasn't exactly anywhere near the top in GAA and won the cup that year. People whining about Ozzie's save % or GAA, or the Wings GAA, really have no leg to stand on, but surely that won't stop them. Besides the whole fact that no team has gone on to win the Stanley Cup whose #1 goalie in the regular season had a GAA over a 3.00 since Patrick Roy in 1992. Throw that pesky little thing aside and you are right. Not only is Osgoods sub par at best performance this year no reason, or "leg to stand on" in regards to reasons to be worried - but I'll one up you and just say it - Goal tending doesn't matter in the playoffs period. Good, bad or non-existent the Wings will win the Cup. Now I just wish all these "worry some about shotty goal tending on a consistent basis throughout the regular season" crowd would just settle down and shut up. Rivalred 630 Report post Posted May 9, 2009 (edited) Considering the Canes are up 3-1 in the series against the Beaners, this thread should be brought back up. Plus, the status of the following teams in the playoffs that had some decent goal tending stats during regular season: Columbus - out Philly - out Rangers - out St. Louis - out Sharks - out Devils - out Edited May 9, 2009 by Rivalred

Rivalred 630 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 So Carolina is in the Eastern Conference Finals and the Wings are in the Western Conference Finals... Osgood during the regular season had similar stats to when Ward won the Cup.
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 Cam Ward has never lost a playoff series. If they win the cup this year.. insanity.
Rivalred 630 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 Cam Ward has never lost a playoff series. If they win the cup this year.. insanity. Also have to take in to account the number of times the Canes have made the playoffs since he has been playing.

Rivalred 630 Report post Posted January 9, 2010 (edited) Bringing this thread back to life as a little reminder to all... Considering it was Ward's rookie season and Howard is now doing a decent job. Yet, do not me mislead folks, Osgood will return. Edited January 9, 2010 by Rivalred
