All must tremble before the awesome power of an internet forum thread. :hehe:

Do some of you really believe this thread will doom Datsyuk? Grow up.

Of course not, it's just strange to question someone's ability to not get injured.

I was thinking about something similar when watching the Calgary game - purely because Phaneuf but him on the ice 3 times, and I couldn't remember the last time I saw Pavel put to the floor so many times in one game (he was still our best player on the ice mind).

And that got me thinking about Crosby (after the TSN announcers gushed all over Pav and agreed he was better than Crosby and those other 2) and how he is injured repeatedly and gets hit **A LOT** Teams go out of their way to hit Crosby and succeed, the also try the same with Pavel, and fail.

So he's slippery as an eel, and very hard to hit. But he also doesn't pick up the run of the mill injuries that go with proffesional Hockey - groins, hamstrings, backs. He's just one of those players (like Nick) that don't pick up injuries, unlike the Franzens, Zetterbergs and Kronwalls of this world who are always going to pick up knocks and niggles.

Why doesn't he get hurt? Have you ever seen his training regimen? He's awfully disciplined when it comes to working out. He's deceptively strong. And yes, sneaky too.

Pav has perfect eyesight thanks to Dr. Rahmani. He can see everything on the ice.

Win!

Its the simple fact that you misspelled his name in the title that will keep the spell of the jinx from taking hold. Its searching but it cannot find any Datryuk worthy of such a jinx. I think we are safe.

LoL, yayyyy. It was a sign then, that I made that typo lol

Thats a good point although i've never noticed his training regimen. But then again, i wasn't paying that close of attention. So yeah, that does make sense.

My bad, scare away.

Attention to detail. I was trying to incite some infamous LGW panic.

Side note, the playoffs are coming - aren't you due to turn in your fan card again?

(I couldn't find the original ranting - but here's your mea culpa.)

He's played in 92.2% of the Club's games played in his career. Very, very impressive.

Impressive, but not nearly as impressive as Lidstrom who has played in 1,325 regular season games of his team's 1,356 games during his carrer (good for 97.7%). There are many other better examples, but I went with the obvious local example.

Of course, no one can beat Jarvis, who I don't think ever missed a game. I think he holds the record for consecutive games at 964, which happens to be his career games played as well, so I guess he played in 100% of his teams' games.

I'd attribute it to three factors:

1) Datsyuk very rarely catches a full hit; his agility and impressive awareness of what's going on on the ice allow him to avoid the vast majority of them, though he certainly does not avoid situations for fear of getting hit.

2) Knowing Datsyuk's work ethic, I wouldn't be surprised if he takes extra-good care of himself off the ice. Stretching and the like can go a long way towards prevention of injury, especially such injuries as muscle pulls or strains.

3) Some players are simply more injury prone or less injury prone than normal. Players such as Marian Gaborik and Martin Havlat belong to the extreme end of the former; Jarome Iginla and Datsyuk are examples of the latter.

I've seen a lot of people mentioning this, but I'm not sure I agree. Normally, when you catch a good, full on, flush hit, you probably are not at a high risk of injury. I think the awkward hits, ones that don't catch guys full on, are the hits that are more dangerous.

Agreed. The hits that put people out of commision in this "pad-everything-with-plastic-armour-and-shields-and-helmets" era are awkward hits that leave people sliding into the boards at awkwards angles and such - not Scott Stevens-esque beauties. I attribute it more to luck than toughness. More impressive to me is the way a guy like Brendan Shanahan plays a far rougher game with a fair bit less armour and is also remarkably durable, despite his advanced age.
