Lilja to miss rest of regular season

Hope Lilja gets well soon. From a hockey standpoint, I'm comfortable with Ericsson.

Well put.

I also hope that Lilja gets better. I've had constant headaches from neck problems from an accident, and they will drive one nuts. I'm glad Stuie is there to be the voice of experience for him and to support and provide empathy.

"Big E" is also doing one heck of a job. Good for him, and good for us to have him.

in the playoffs? im not so sure. i guess we will have to see!

although Lilja is a a 5th or 6th defenseman, he is still valuable on the team, and in my eyes, is a better choice between ericsson and himself; he blocks shots and can use his body, but with Lillypads, you take the bad with the good:

With Lilja probably out for the playoffs (I think we have to assume that, given his current condition and the literature on PC syndrome), the Wings are really lacking in depth on D heading into the playoffs. If a D-man gets hurt they will have to play Meech or even Chelios. I like Meech but can he play third-pair minutes for any length of time? And who would we pair him with? Not Lebda because they're both too similar, and not Ericsson because they're both too inexperienced. So one of the top four would drop to the third pair and lose ice time. Stuart, I guess.

Sucks for him, i guess I was right when i said... he did get knocked the f*** out! after that fight. Concussions are scary things. Take time rest up and try to make it back.

P.S. you will be happy to know lilypads that you did have a fan in attendance. The season ticket holder of the game said you were her favorite... so YAY!

This is a tougher blow than I think people realize. The Wings' PK has been garbage this season and losing arguably our best PK'er and shot blocker of the season for possibly part (or all) of the playoffs is a massive blow. Ericsson can play, no doubt.....but he doesn't come with the experience and shot-blocking ability Lilja does.

Here's hoping Lilja gets healthy and can some how miraculously make it back in time for the playoffs.

Exactly how I feel. Get better soon Lilja!

Lilija has had an amazing season, but I think people are overreacting. We lost Lilja and gained Ericsson, things could be worse. The Big Rig has been a great fit on this team and he'll turn it up a few notches in the playoffs.

It was nice to see him stay at home (net) and clear bodies away from hacking and wacking last night.

There's no evidence that he'll "turn it up" in the playoffs and on top of that he doesn't have the experience Lilja does. He also doesn't come with the shot-blocking ability Lilja does which will be beyond important given the Wings PK struggles all season.

This absolutely no knock on Ericsson because I'm fired up about him being a Red Wing full-time, but I believe some are underestimating Lilja's value on this team.

I believe Lilja was/is a nice asset to the team, but I also believe that Ericsson will be great in the playoffs. I believe we have enough veterans to guide Ericsson, and he will turn it up a couple of notches and be physical.

Of course I have no proof, he's a rookie... and no better time for him to pop his playoff "cherry" than now, while we have veteran players like Lidstrom and Chelios.

Lidstrom

Ralfi

Stuart

Kronwall

Ericsson

Lebda

Meech / Chelios

That doesn't look so bad, now does it?

I never said it looked bad. I just said Lilja's experience and especially his shot-blocking ability are big holes to fill.

I'm not ready to hit the panic button until we're down 0-3 in the 1st round. Then I'll panic. Until then, I have confidence that this team will be fine.

So do I. I'm not hitting the panic button whatsoever, just stating that the loss of Lilja is bigger than most people seem to acknowledge or understand.
